Default Help - Adjusting pinion angle
I need to set my pinion angle to -2.00. I watched the UMI video but need some clarification please.
I read it with a digital angle finder on the harmonic balancer. Not the bolt.


UMI checked from driver side and got negative angle. I checked from driver side and get a positive angle. Every video or thread I read gets a negative angle on the drivers side.

Am I suppose to read from the drivers side or passenger side?
if driver side why am I getting a positive angle?


Edit: I bought a new angle finder so I’m no longer confused. Answered my own question.

That's fine, might be easier to get a measurement off the balancer

Just be consistent, if you read off the passenger side for one angle, do the same for the other angle of the drive line.

Nobody has covered the driveline angle topic, and all the conflicting info, more thoroughly than Mankandy (Garage Fab).

I take a measurement off my ATI balancer let's call it 6 then from the same side I put my angle finder on my rear end and make that 4. -2 degrees. Just that simple.

yes should be all set
final
front tail down 3.4
rear nose up 1.4
= -2.00 pinion angle
if u can confirm?

What it is the angle at your tailshaft or balancer? 3.4°?

Your angle at the pinion yoke should be within 1° of the angle measured at the tailshaft. You're trying to account for the slop in bushings, as the axle will rotate up slightly under acceleration load.

If I read your numbers as this, you pinion needs to come up 1 more degree, assuming you're setting this up for street driving. Then go drive it down the highway between, 65 and 75 mph, and see if it runs smooth.

Depends, the pinion number is only one half the equation. It's driveline angles (output, and input shafts) that matter, the two numbers together, under load, operating at equally opposing angles. Are you mostly drag racing, or mostly street driving? I would lean towards a street setup if you're doing that 90% or more of the time.

I would try to get the 1.4* number to 2.4*, go drive the thing and see if you get vibrations between 65-75mph.

We have found the best settings for a street driven car are: Automatics 1-2 degrees negative, manual 1-3 degrees negative.

Don't be overthinking this it's way too simple. Set it up like the BMR video says and you'll be good to go.

im not overthinking it. My math says I nailed it so I’m not adjusting it further until it’s driven then it will be rechecked. What would the BMR video tell me?

Did u read the measurements?
