Default DIY SFC Install

I'm planning on ordering a set of UMI Performance SFCs, but I'd like to install them myself. I have a stick welder (220), but not a lot of experience at using it. I know that I need to:

1.) Have the car's weight on the wheels (IE drive on lift).
2.) Weld on bare metal, and repaint after I'm done.
3.) Disconnect both terminals of the battery (Also going to disconnect my nitrous controller and other add-ons just in case).

Anything else? I've done some rough welding, but I'd like for this to be a neat job.

Thanks.

Does the welder have DC? It's ain't fun welding with upside down with a AC welder if you are not very experienced. But hey, if you want to give it try,,,,have at at. May not be the best way to learn, but it beats not learning at all.

It's going to be hard to keep from blowing holes in the body,,, just be aware of that.

It's just an AC welder. Holes in the body and sloppy work is unacceptable. I guess I'll have to have someone else do it...

A good shop should be able to do this for $60-$80, maybe even better.

Just make sure they also weld the backs and not just the fronts with the suspension LOADED. I have read to many post of garages screwing this install up.

Good luck with the purchase, you'll be pleased!

What sort of shop should I look for to install the SFCs? Will a good frame-capable body shop be able to do it?

Yes a frame shop can do this install...or at least should be able to.

The instructions are very detailed along with pictures. Anyone can actually install these just by following them, just need the welder. Just remember my 2 tips listed above and you are good to go.
