I know someone in here has done it. I am in a bind and need to get my car back on the road. has anyone upgraded their brakes from LT1 to LS1? I need to know what parts are needed to do so. Thanks in advance
Brett

You will need:
LS1 calipers
LS1 rotors
LS1 knuckles
LS1 pads

I think that is the minimum you need, I'm sure someone else will chime in as well.

When you say knuckles....you mean the brackets right?

You need the uprights (the part that goes between the upper and lower a-arm), calipers, & rotors.

I guess I should have been more clear I am just needing to replace the back brakes. so calipers and rotors will cover it right?

There's really no need to upgrade the rear to the LS1's. You would have to change the backing plates that are on the axle housing, the type of emergency/parking brake system, calipers and lastly rotors, and for very minimal gain.

I'm sorry, I may be a bit slow today.. If you have the LT1 rear, why do you need to upgrade to LS1 rear brakes? Like I said.. It would be more hassle than it's worth. I've done the LS1 front brake upgrade, and now moved on to the C5 brake upgrade and still retain the stock LT1 rear brakes (even though I have a 12 bolt).

My rotors are already here. as well as new pads. I assumed I had an LS1 rearend but i just found out i don't. How hard is it to get that backing plate off?

You have to remove the calipers, then the rotors, then take out the axles, and then the bearing have to be pressed in/out of the new/old backing plates, I believe, but I believe that depends on if you have a 3 or 4 channel rear end (the 4 channel rear ends came from cars with traction control).

so there is no way the LS1 brackets will fit my rearend backing plate?

Sorry.. I don't think so. The brake caliper and rotor offsets are slightly different.

yea Im sorry to say but these guys are right just see if u can return your stuff and go to napa and get some ceramic pads and new rotors...you wont notice the diff between ls1 and lt1 back brakes the hassle aint worth it plus if u ever got to a 12 bolt its way easier to swap to a 12 from the lt1 rear than ls1 because of the backing plates just my 2 pennies

The rear brakes only do 25% of the braking anyways.
