Default Brakes Locking Up

Today my front brakes just clamped down and wont release. I was on my way home and close to home when it happened. The fronts locked and with my foot off of the pedal the car comes to a complete stop, really fast, like i am pushing hard on the brakes. Does anyone have any ideas of whats wrong, i bled the line several times and still its messed up.

Have you taken the calipers off to inspect the pads, rotors, pistons, caliper slide pins?

What about the ABS? Did any warning lights come on?

See if the caliper slides are siezed. If not while it is happening open the bleeder, if fluid comes out & wheel spins replace the hoses. If not replace the calipers.

FOREWORD: I'm not trying to be stupid here... it's just late and I'm very tired.

Now just wondering here, but is there any chance that symptom could also indicate an ABS unit or MC problem?

Inspect the caliper and grease the slider pins. Siezed calipers usually are a result of stuck pins.

Well the only real way to diagnose a hydraulic hang up problem is a brake pressure gauge. But alot of shops dont even have then let alone your average enthusiast.
Very rarely would a ABS system cause this w/o a ABS light on. If it where to blame it would prolly not be drivable, seen that B-4. Never seen a master cause them to hang up that hard. Only the overfilled master or misadjusted pedal actuator rod causing the brakes to drag slightly.
When you crack a bleeder w/ a colapsed hose, it will spay out. Not gravity bleed, it will be obvious there was alot of pressure there. A hose failure/caliper failure is far more common in this area then anything else.

I was pretty sure that what you described is most commonly caused by a hose or caliper problem... I was simply pondering aloud. Thanks for the info, that's some good tech.
