Upper Panhard Bar

Upper Panhard Bar
What purpose does this serve? Can I take the bolt out of the upper Panhard Bar and use it in the lower panhard bar. I ask because I lost the bolt for the lower panhard bar. It doesn't look like the upper PHB would even do anything. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I need this bolt where can I get it from?

I wouldn't do that. The upper panhard rod stabilizes the lower panhard rod mount and also helps to spread the load across the body of the vehicle. Just remember, if gm could have saved the money on the upper panhard rod for each car, they would have. I would try the dealership for a new bolt. I'm sure one of the sponsors has a bolt kit, but I couldn't find it quickly. It'll just take a bit more searching.

777,
Do yourself a favor and just pick up a new bolt from the dealer. Any halfway respectable parts guy will be able to pull up an exploded view of the rear suspension on the computer and you guys can easily locate the bolt you need.
Also, do not run without the upper PHR and don't just get some bolt from the hardware store. As pimpmaro noted above, the upper PHR is a structural support for your PHR so if you're running without it you simply don't understand how the suspension works. Also, most of GM's suspension bolts are Prop Class 10.9 (equivalent to SAE grade 8) so you can't just pick up any bolt of the same size and expect it to be suitable. Finally, again as noted above, the PHR bolt is stepped and so a standard bolt wouldn't work well anyway.

I see the purpose of the upper PHB, however, I don't see it causing adverse effects without running as long as you aren't going crazy on the turns. I see it supports the bracket, however the bracket looks pretty solid. I have ridden the car without the upper phb bolt in place and the upper phb hasn't even moved off-center with the bolt hole. I plan on going to the dealer today, I think. You have any idea what a t-top shade will run? How about a center console for a 6-speed.

I am until I can get another bolt. How else am I supposed to get around? I was riding a little bit with just a hanger wire stuck into the lower phb and it would sway back and forth pretty bad, so I just took the upper phb bolt and used it in the lower phb. Now I'm just waiting on getting another one. Looks like I'll be going to the junkyard. Bolt place can't make it. Dealership says I have to buy 5 since they come in a pack of 5. I'm not doing that. Spohn sells them for $20 for two Dealership was like 3$ a piece. Junkyard would be like 2$ (but I can just get one)

Parts manual shows all three bolds on the Upper and Lower PHB as the same part number (11516933)
You may be able to find it cheaper there but for crying out loud don't drive around without that bolt in the PHB.

Try another dealership. I've never heard of only being able to buy a pack of 5. I've gotten single bolts from places before. Also try chevy places.
