I like my Random Tech, I'm not going all out drag so I asked Thunder which one they recommend and RT was the one so I bought it from them.

I'm using the same one, and its been holding up fine. I did not like the short TA that mounts to the tunnel brace, because I know of a few people with low cars that scrap it on large speed bumps.

Hi
I had bad luck with the Spohn tranny mount arm. It does not clear the factory exhaust at the front. They claim it is a bolt in with no welding or fabrication required. That is not my experience. Check around the forum and you will find others with fit issues. I am replacing it with a BMR unit.

Where exactly did it not clear? I can't see where there would be any contact with the exhaust. The T/A runs along side the tranny, the exhaust should be going under the tranny.

So the tranny mount is better for clearance?...cuz my car's lowered. By having it mounted to the tranny is that just as strong with it mounted into the frame?

Default Spohn Torque Arm

felton316

Have a look at this link. There are a few photos. The Y pipe actually does come directly under the torqure arm at the front.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...relocation+kit

This guy had to use a BMR torque arm relocation kit and notch the Y pipe to get it to fit. Also, he was able to get the tunel brace on with the relocation kit, but it will not fit without it.

Thanks JA

I believe the greatest problem with the tranny mount torque arm is that it may break the tail shaft on your transmission. There are a few photos around on this forum so have a look. I assume it is only a problem if you have lots of HP, gears and tires.

With the tranny mount you will loose no ground clearance. With the BMR reclocation brace I believe you will loose about 3/4" to 1". I beleive with the Yank a little less.

With a tunnel mount torque arm it depends on your exhaust. With a stock Y pipe you will not loose too much. But if you have long tubes, then you have to get the design with additional clearance in the tunnel support. Not too bad on a car with stock hight, but may be a problem on a lowered car for street driving.

A Spohn TA doesn't come close to hitting the exhaust on a stock height, stock y pipe exhaust. Mine has tons of clearance.

Also, the breaking the transmission tail shaft seems to be more an opinion than fact for street / strip cars.

Check with Sam Strano (both a racer and a sponsor here) about tranny mounted TA's. www.stranoparts.com

Hi, thanks for the input. It's a bit of a puzzle as my car is stock ride hight and I am not making out very well with my torque arm. I don't suppose you have any under view photos of you car, or perhaps you can get one next time you do work on it. It would help me out. Thanks
