Default Earl's Brake Lines Install

Just starting to replace my lines with Earl's. The question I have is the lines have a lock nut on them and the stock has a clip. I assume the lock nut goes on the inside of the bracket. Is that right?

Question

Now the front line does not fit right at the bottom. I thought these were direct replacements. I guess I will send them back and just put the stock one back on. The part number I have is 28A460ERL. Does that suppose to fit a 2001? Maybe I received the wrong ones.

It is a little hard to explain but I will try. If you line up the hole in the banjo to the hole in the calipter the banjo hits the section on the calipter that prevents the banjo from turning. The location of the Earl's lines I assume has to be in the same location as the stock ones. The holes do not line up when you place it to the calipter. A small raised area from the edge of the machined area is in the way.. I did notice the banjo is longer on the Earl's than the stock ones.
I would take a picture but I already put the stock ones back on.

Do you think they sent you the wrong ones???

I didn't install mine (I don't ever trust myself with anything that touches the front brakes), but the guy didn't have any trouble putting them on.

Well other than finding the 5th line in the center of the rear. Ever time I have work done I ask for the old stuff back just to make sure they didn't "pretend" to do all of them and just skip the hard ones.

I had no problem with mine, but I did use Corvette fronts ( a little longer than Camaro's) since I have C5 brake kit on mine.

Make sure you have the correct hose on the correct side. Mine had a label that said what side of the car the hose went on, otherwise the banjo fitting would not line up properly.

I also did the rears, and they were labeled also.

Hope this helps

Make sure you have it oriented right. Here is a pic of mine on the drivers side front. The quality sucks but you get the idea. Hope this helps.

I think that was my problem. I wanted to place the Earl's line just like the stock. The line looked short the way you did it but I will give it another try. How did you setup the other end of the lines. Does the large nut go on the inside of the bracket? It did not look like that would work. Do you use the stock clip?
Thanks for your help. If Earl's had better directions?????

You have to take the nut off put the line on and tighten the nut on to the other side of the bracket, this way you do not need the stock clip (The stock clip will not work with these lines anyway)

PS: I found it easier to attached the lines together first then tighten the bracket nut.

Also it is a lot easier to disconnect the old lines if you leave the clip on. Once they are unscrewed then take the clip off. Otherwise it can be a pain in the butt!

If you need I can try to take a picture of mine so you can see how it is attached

Yeah, mine are setup like hodiec's, except I dont have the cool spring thing(I assume it is an anti-kink device?). But you basically sandwich the bracket on the car between the nut on the hose and the other large nut and eliminate the clip altogether.

Also, I found it easier to attach the banjo fitting first, then the hard line. The main thing is to tighten the bracket last.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Mike
