Default a4 vs m6 driveshaft?

are the two driveshafts the same besides the counter weight on the a4? can i run my driveshaft without the counter weight? or could i run a shaft from a M6 car to check my vibration problem?

Thanks

John

They are interchangable.

The counter weight on a driveshaft keeps it in balance. If you remove a counterweight, you'll get some nasty driveline vibrations.

Every driveshaft should have balancing weights......I've never seen one that was perfectly balanced without weights.

Most of them will have weights. Think of it like tires, most have weights on them, but I do have two on the front of my car right now that needed no weight at all, none. It's rare, but it does happen. Driveshafts seem to work about the same way.

well no not the actual counter weights my shaft has a round weight on the front. you have the shaft that slides into the tranny then this round counter weight then the front u-joints. i am beginning to think this driveshaft has been fixed before if no one else has this big weight? i will try to get a picture...

That weight is a vibration damper, I had two lt1 camaros and they both had it one was a steel shaft and the other aluminum.

Which is stronger, the 3" aluminum 'most-common' LS1 shaft; or the 2.75" steel shaft on my 98 2.73 geared A4 Formula?
