why? just curious ...

The kit is about $14 and it requires 2 per caliper.

I have bought reman calipers from O'Reilly's for $35. They are ready to bolt on ...

Caliper rebuild kits are GM p/n 18026160 and you need two each for the fronts. If you can get quality remans for $35, though, then don't even bother doing them yourself. I think this has been discussed a while back, but that was many beers ago...

I agree there, might be more cost effective to buy remans. I went with the rebuild so I could bead blast and powder coat.
Vs taking a new set apart.

Is there a reason you are getting the rebuild kit if you are just going to powder coat them? The reason I ask is because I want to take mine off to powder coat, but I don't know if I have to rebuild them while I'm at it...what is involved?

Thanks for the link, but is this necessary on a street car with 40k miles? I don't mind doing it, but if it doesn't need it...

Most common reason that I know of to rebuild them is due to a torn dust boot. However, if you are stripping the calipers down anyway to have them powdercoated why not spend the extra few bucks to do it? Its about a 10-minute procedure if you have the tools and follow Mitch's excellent instructions on installuniversity. Of course, this is just my .02, though, because if there is no damage then you're probably fine not doing it.

FYI, go through www.gmpartsdirect.com and they are less than $10. I ordered 4 and it was $46.19 shipped.

I sent them an email because I just realized that I don't think I ordered enough. I know you need 2 for each caliper...is this true for front and rear? In other words, should I have gotten 8 instead of 4? Can someone please help me ASAP???? Thanks!

Each rebuild kit is good for one piston. That means that the fronts require two kits per caliper (p/n 18026160) and that the rears require one kit per caliper. The rears are a different part number though, 12530687.

So it looks like your order for quantity of four 18026160 is correct for the fronts. You will just need the additional two kits for the rear calipers if you want to do those as well.

And just for giggles, if you order a kit to rebuild the fronts of C5 calipers, 1 kit will get you 2 sets of seals and boots ... go figure ...
