Default quick brake caliper question

Hey guys this is probably a stupid question but anyways I am planning or repainting my calipers here in the next two days and i was hoping there is a way to take it completely off so i can take it to the work bench and sand them down and stuff. What do i need to go through to do this and also what kind of clear coat could i use on these

You can take the caliper(s) completely off if you really want to. That's one way to do it. However I'd suggest you try an alternative method. Go with the Dupli-Color (with ceramic) caliper paint kit. It's a great brush on kit. Comes with everything you'll need. With this kit you paint the caliper while it's still on the car. If you really want to clean the caliper(s), first I'd suggest you wire brush it, then hit it with some sandpaper, and lastly use the kit. You won't be dissapointed with the results if you take your time and follow all directions in the kit.

To get the calipers off, you need to remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the brake line.

The dupli-color kit has a very nice gloss to it once it dries. Looks as if you sprayed it with clear coat. You'll need to apply 2 coats; maybe a 3rd if you want. I did 2.

I sprayed mine while still on the car..very good job..took me awhile to prep and cover with paper and plastic bag...easier I think...did it 10 months ago and still looks good except a small rock chip on one....which will get fixed soon.....

Of course fluid will run out of the line once it is disconnected. Just elevate the end of the hose to help eliminate fluid lose. Place a rag through the brake line fitting hole, making sure the rag is in there tightly. Then wrap another rag (if needed) around the end as an added precaution to further eliminate fluid lose. I also suggest you put tape around the rag so that it does not fall off.

Another thing, remove as much brake fluid from the master cylinder as possible before hand. Try using a turkey baster. And have a can or bottle handy to catch the little bit of fluid that will be running out of the brake line(s) once you brake it/them loose.

Fluid will continue to leak out as long as the master cylinder is higher than the line. Close off the banjo fitting per the link above.
