lightest subframe connectors
#2
The LG motorsports subframe connectors have tube construction that looks like it might be lighter than the standard boxed connectors that many companies make. Im sorry I dont know the weight but you might want to check them out. The ones I used in the GTA were the box style and were 35lbs. They were the jeggster subframe connectors from Jeggs.

The lightest we offer are our tubular 2-Points, they weigh in at 24lbs. a set. If you have any questions please ask and I am glad to help.

I would check the Spohn website again just to be more accurate, but that's the best that I can remember them. (I bought the chrome-moly SFC's).

Light isn't always best, especially when trying to add back bone to a flimsy chassis.
I have heavy, boxed, x-braced SLP subframes that shoud be around 40+ pounds. Those pieces of pig iron are bullet proof and that's what you want in a subframe.
I'll take 30 years of service in trade for an extra 10-15 pounds compared to a less rigid design just for the sake of saying you have sub-frames.

Chromoly is stronger than the mild steel and it's lighter so while you may think that having a 40 pound boxed SFC means it's going to be stronger that isn't going to be always true. I'll put my Lighter SFCs by wolfe up against any others out there. If you want something that's really going to be strong then you need the through-floor SFCs that Wolfe makes.

^^^ Good point about the chomemoly.
When it comes to straight bolt on/weld in sub-frames I think SLP has the best part out there IMO.
That's the only aftrermarket part I'd buy from SLP though. ~Joshua

UMI 3-point ones look just about as good as the SLP ones, and I'd say either of these are probably more rigid than any of the 2-point designs regardless of material (though I haven't tested them). On the other hand, chromemoly is stronger than mild steel, given the same wall thickness, dimensions, and design, but usually thinner walled tubing is used (which is why you get a weight savings), so the overall rigidity gains that might be observed by using chromemoly in lieu of mild steel are usually sacrificed for weight savings by using less material. They still may be a little bit stronger, but probably not significantly.

Can the tubular connectors still be used as jacking points?
It's really handy to be able to jack up one side of the car at a time like with the boxed ones but i'm also looking for a very light subframe connector.
And has anyone thought about the tubular chromemoly ones that Hardcore makes and uses on their 7 second TA?

Here are the Wolfe's...are they bolt in or weld in?

Those look extremely nice. It says they are mild steel. Are these safe to use as jacking points to lift the side of the car? It also makes me wonder when people say 11-13lbs, are they talking about each or for the set? If it was for the set that means chromemoly would be 1/2 the weight of mild steel which seems a bit exaggerated to me.
