Default Clunking sound from rear (update)...its back!

OK here is my situation....I recently put a G2 Adj Panhard with a single rod end on my '02 SS, I also have, Global West subframes, along with Bilstein suspension. When I drive around on any kind of uneven pavement, I mean any little bump, dip, cut in road, etc...., I get this clunking sound coming from the rear end of the car. Its like a muffled thud and its driving me up the F##@#%@#$#@ wall. Is there any way to get rid of this, or is this something I have to deal with because of the rod end? The LCA's have never been removed and I never noticed the problem before. Please help me, this needs to go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

did you make sure its not loose? I dont have rod ends on my panhard, but my bmr poly/poly didnt seem to make an increase is noise.

I say if you find it tight, and there is no play in the heim joint (if there is i'd rule it defective), then i would replace it with the stock one (whats it take- 5, 10 mins) and see if it goes away.

YOu may want to check all exhaust components also. Especially the y pipe and over axle part of the exhaust. Take a look at the rear allignemnt and see if you need an Adj. PHR. If the car is lowered also check out the bumpstops and see if the rear suspension ib bottoming out. My car did exactly what you are describing with just Eibach springs. I added Lg relo brackets, bilstein shocks, G2 LCAs, G2 Adj PHR, and G2 SFCs. The noise is still there sometimes but not nearly as frequently. I am pretty sure my problem is the bumpstops.

Good Luck

from what i've heard, since the bumpstops are pretty soft, and kind of progressive, they dont make much noise.

I forgot to mention the exhaust, i get some noise from the mount that goes over the axle on the pass side.

My panhard is adjustable, but set at stock length since I have yet to get my G2 springs. I did relocate the exhaust when I put the panhard on, so I will double check that I have all the clearance I need...I thought I did, but it could of settled a little after driving. I checked the panhard itself and it is solid as a rock. Thanks for the help and will let you guys know what I find out.

Ok guys...the heavy banging from hard shifting that I thought I got rid of with the poly tranny mount is now back and worse than ever...what the f$%k is going on with my car? Every time I shift hard into second gear I get a thump, thump that I can feel in my ***...what the hell is this? Also...I checked all my exhaust brackets, clamps, etc...and everything is on tight...I even shook the hell out of it and didnt hear the sound I keep hearing. Everytime I hit a slight bump I hear clunk, clunk from the back...kinda like solid metal on solid metal (not tinny or anything more like a thud)...I have no more thoughts...this is driving me nuts...WTF!!! PLEASE GOD HELP ME WITH THIS.

Make sure the bolts for on the rear your subframe connectors are torqued down HARD. Sometimes if they wiggle loose, it will stop compressing the bushing, and when you hit bumps or shift hard it will bang. They need to be tightened over 75ft/lbs.. Extremely tight. Mine seem to loosen up in the summer heat. I've had to torque em down twice so far..

I'm having the same problem and I just put the car on the lift today. From what I can see it looks like the top of my BMR torque arm is smashing into the bottom of the car. I have to figure out why now. I have competition engineering 3-way adj. shocks set to 50/50 with stock springs. Any ideas?

I have the BMR chromoly panhard rod with rod ends and matching BMR LCA's with rod ends as well on my 2002 Z-28. I am also getting a loud thump on either hard bumps or hard shifts (even worse during hard shifts on bumpy pavement). I notice that it is only hard bumps on the right rear (like going over 1/2 of a speed bump and hitting it with the right side of the car, if I hit them with the left side....no noise. I need to get under my car again, but I suspect the larger diameter of the aftermarked panhard rod is allowing it to contact the upper panhard rod(I'll prove that or disprove that soon). I just added double adjustable Koni shocks to the rear (set 4 clicks from soft in compression and 1/2 turn from soft in rebound) and I've not heard any noise since....Hmmm....interesting. I'll let you know as soon as I know (I"m putting H&R springs on this weekend and I'll be under the car again).

PS, My SLP subframe connectors are welded in and my torque arm is still stock (as were the shocks and springs when I had the noise). That rules out loose connectors for me or the torque arm hitting the chassis (at least in my case). I'll try to let you know what I find as soon as I find it.

If it's doing it on the shifts then it's either your trans or TA hitting the car. I had a busted trans mount and I had the loundest BANG whenever it shifted at WOT. I never knew what it was until I got a poly mount and it went away.

I've heard some people say that the poly tranny moung they got was taller than the original they found out. They said that this was causing the tranny to hit the underside of the car which would definetly right under you. The wear from the knocking is gonna show up somewhere so you can udentify it. This may be hard but if you jack it up and get up under it the axle is hanging down not where it would be while on the ground. You need to check all of your clearance while the car is on a ramp type lift or over a pit.

I have a similar issue, chev, except mine comes when I am cruising and go over rough pavement/bumps. Under throttle, it goes away. I have pretty much convinced myself that it's the Heim joints on my LCA's (if there is a bit of play there, that slop would be taken up as the axle tries to rotate under heavy throttle); I just bought another set, so hopefully I'll get a chance to experiment this weekend.

If that's not it, all of the stock bits are going back on the car one at a time until the noise goes away.

I double checked all clearances and bolt tightness a few days ago and everything is peachy. I have the poly tranny mount already...but when I went on a drive today with bullSSeye he noticed that the thump was coming from a different location now...you think something could have worn and caused it to thump again? Maybe the torque arm mount or torque arm itself?

Sorry (off-topic kinda) but all this talk has got me wondering....is there a 1LE tranny mount for a 2000 F-Body and what is the part#? I would think it'd be a better set up for the street than the poly tranny mount......
