Default Nitto 315 vs. 275 for traction

I am going to be getting a jolt of HP in the next month (H/C and supercharger) and I am trying to decide if I should upgrade my wheels. My question is: how much better traction is a 17x11" wheel w/ Nitto 555R 315/35/17 going to give me over my stock wheel with the Nitto 555R 275/40/17? Will it improve my 1/4" time at all or be very noticable? Thanks for any help!

It depends on a few things. My buddy slowed down 2tenths when he went with 17x11's with 315's but that wasnt on a highly modded car.I guess what you should ask yourself is how much power are you going to be getting.Once you get that power try the with the 275's.Another one of my buds did pick up traction though because he did heads and cam and went from 16 inch 245 nittos to 17x11 with 315's so you can imagine what a gain that was.

Basically you will go faster with the smallest and lightest wheel/tire combo you can hook on, but with a blower I would think that 315's on 17x11's would be in order. 2" more contact patch is going to put more power down.

That's kinda what I thought. I will be pushing 575 RWHP so I figure more contact patch will probably help me. Would love to find those black ZR1s....

I think with that much RWHP, your still going to get bad wheelspin even with 17x11's with drag radials. I have right around 500 at the rear N/A and I can't hook up to save my life with my 17x11's with Nitto's. Good luck

Hmmm, so maybe the extra $1000 for the new wheels isn't worth it... I wish I could find some stock looking WS6 wheels that are 17x11 to match my fronts, then I wouldn't have to buy 4 new wheels and I could keep my stock look.

I emailed AFS Wheels yesterday and will give them a call tomorrow. They are only 30 minutes away from me.

I believe for about $400 you can get your wheels widened.....Check out a post on LS1.com in the vendor section, the topic is buy Todd@discounttiredirect
and the title is something with 17x11 Z06 or Y2K rims, someone on there mentioned a place that widens wheels

Yeah like postal said, the 17x11s arent gonna harness your power as my 500rwhp still chirps 4th gear and the car "bones out" in 3rd and I cant even floor 2nd, dont even use 1st anymore. Maybe with the Nitto 555 Rs or R2s it would hook as thats what Im going with when these Dunlops wear out. The stance looks sweet from the rear though!

I actually found a place that will widen my tires for about $500 and it isn't too far from where I live. I'm leaning towards that - I'm just a little worried that they won't be as strong with all the welding. Thanks for all the replies, tho!
