What is the difference between the SS spring/shock setup and the standard Camaro setup? Where there different levels available? Thanks.

I have one of each so I'll tell you what I can about them.
My SS has the standard SS suspension. I don't know if there are factory upgrades to this suspension.
The Z28 most definitely rides better. It has single rate springs. The SS springs are progressive rate. The SS shocks are supposed to be stiffer.
I'm not sure about the swaybars. I think they're the same (seem like it) but maybe someone else can confirm that.
Handling? Seems the same to me. Actually, it did seem the same but the Z28 handles better now that it's been lowered 1" by removing the rear spring cushions and chopping 2/3 of a coil off the front springs. This isn't a direct comparison though. The Z28 has 315/40/17s where the SS has 275/40/17s.
I like the Z28 suspension better.

98-99 SS suspension gets:
360 lbs/in front 1LE springs (linear rate)
115 lbs/in rear springs (linear rate)
32mm hollow front sway bar
slightly revavled Decarbons (not confirmed)
aluminum jounce spacers
17" SS wheels
00-02 SS gets the front spring rate changed to 290 lbs/in

Chris, do you have the specs on the rear springs for the '02 SS? Also, how about the rear spring specs on the NON SS or WS6 convertibles (V8, of course.) Thanks. WJ.

I'll make it easy for ya: Base 2000-02 SS's used the same springs, front & rear, as stock Z28's of the same years--290 lb/in. front, 115 lb/in. rear. Front swaybar is 32mm instead of 30mm, and supposedly the shocks were revalved slightly. I've never been able to verify the part about the shocks though.
The 2000-02 Bilstein suspension option got you variable front springs (223-448 lb/in.) & variable rear springs(97-136 lb/in.), plus (obviously) Bilstein shocks, and 35mm front/21mm rear swaybars, plus some stiffer swaybar bushings and different swaybar endlinks.
2000-02 1LE SS's got stiffer front springs (360 lb/in.) and variable rate rear springs (130-170 lb/in.) plus DA Koni's, 35mm/21mm swaybars, stiffer swaybar bushings, different endlinks, different LCA bushings, and a few other goodies.
More info than you asked for, but maybe this will help somebody else.

I'm primarily interested in the rear spring rates of the '01-'02 Convertible non-SS, or non-WS6 cars. That's V8 convertible base rears. Can you help me out? Thanks very much. WJ.

There is no difference in the spring rates for coupes & convertibles. See my post above for the spring rates of ALL 2000-02 Z28's and base SS's. (290/115 f/r, straight-rate.)

Killer: That's strange, because I've got a pair of '01 TA convertible rears in my garage, and they're different part #'s than the tags on my '02 SS w/standard suspension....Can you explain that? Thanks. WJ.

Hmmmm... It could just be updated part numbers... I know that GM changed the part numbers for the 1LE springs between 1995 and 2000, even though the springs are identical and the rates are the same. Can you give me the different part numbers? Maybe I can find out the difference for ya.
