Default pop from stearing

hey guys i have a poping sound when i turn the wheel back and fourth and it has got worse in the last few days.
i thought it was a ball joint and i took it to a suspension specialty shop that worked on my car before and he could not find any thing wrong with the car.
im shure its stearing related because it does it when im driveing and also if the car is parked and i turn the wheel side to side it will pop turning both ways.
need some help guys thanks

Sounds to me like your shock mount is worn out. My grand prix was doing this and it turned out that the strut mounts went bad. I replaced them and the popping sound is gone. Your symptoms sound similar and you might want to have them checked out. The shock mount is a rubber cup shaped object that sits on top of the spring and bolts up to the engine shock area .

well i just had the a set of new shocks put on about 2 months ago.
it sounds like its coming from the front drivers side wheel well.
i was thinking it may be the stearing shaft or something related.

chime in guys

The Guz,
The Grand Prix is FWD. It has front struts which rotate as the wheels turns left/right. The 4th gen f-body has front shocks that are not related to the steering in any way. Its unlikely that the upper front shock mounts in the f-body would make noise while turning.

shaun,
Check for play in the steering. It could be a bad tie-rod. Since you said that the noise seems to be coming from the drivers side, jack up the drivers side just enough for that wheel to be off the ground. Grab the wheel at the 3 and 9 oclock position and rock/tilt the wheel left/right. Is there any play (especially any noise)? If there is any play then its a bad tie-rod. Grab the wheel at the 12 and 6 oclock positions. Rock/tilt the wheel up/down. Is there any play (or noise)? If there is any play or noise, then its a bad ball joint.

well i tryed jacking up the front of the car and i put it on jack stands and cranked it up and turned the wheel back and fourth and the noise went away but its back when the car is on the ground.
the suspention shop looked at it and every thing and they said it was fine.
so im stuck and im a little scared of it breaking on the road.
please chime in guys.

I had a similar issue. Ended up being the metal clamp that attaches the front sway bar middle bushings to the frame. There was some grit between the clamp and frame. The way I found this out was by putting the car up on jack stands and using the jack to move the a-arm up and down while listening. I then loosened one of the bolts connecting that clamp to the fram and the noise went away. I noticed there was some grit between it and the frame. Used some wd40 to clean it out, retightened it and the noise has gone away. I still need to regrease all the swaybar bushings. That could be another thing you could try.

well i soaked all the front suspension bushings and mount points and the noise is gone except for when i hit a bump when turning but it stoped when i turn the wheel side to side.
but i noticed the sway bar end links seem chewed up where they meet the lower control arm. there was some tiny rocks that looked like they ate away the bushing at the bottom and i spayed them down with wd 40 also.
could that be the noise?

i just had my car fixed for a clicking, clunking, noise when i turn also. it turned out that it was a loose screw or bolt somewhere on the tie rod or rack and pinion.. now my car is driving perfect..

The bushings could be the noise, Also check to see if the tie rods have been replaced, If they have they might have Zurc(sp) fittings and may need to be lubed up.

Buy some new endlinks if the rocks have chewed them up, the WD-40 won't last long. Autozone carries the ES line, good place to get them.

I would check the steering rack and all connected parts.

I would be hesitant to even drive the car while it is having that problem.

well thanks guys for the imput and your time.
i had every thing checked and it was fine. a suspension shop looked at it like i said and i dont really care for the dealer looking at it because they always find some other crap thats not even bad on the car.
