Why wont my BFG Drags Hook?
I just finished installing my 275/60/15 BFG Comp TA Drag Radials on an old set of 15 inch rims I had laying around.. I put them on the back of the car and decided I would take them out and try to see how they hook. Most of the time I dead set hook on nittos if I heat them nicely. Well I heated these BFGs at 20 psi and the spun entirely through all of first gear, then I tried 18 psi and it still spun through 1st, then I lowered to 16 psi and it still spun through 1st. So needless to say Im pretty ticked because I figured these would hook better than my 245/50/16 nittos and they dont.
I talked to another guy later today and he said that his usually hooks best on the street with about 35 pound of air in them? Does this sound right? It sure doesnt to me.. Any help is appreciated....

just a shot in the dark here but was pavement and outside temp both the same?(apples to apples) I noticed my nittos would get better traction on certain types of pavement and bad traction in cold weather? just a thought?

If the tires are brand new or pretty new they probably won't hook much. BFGs have been known to hook best after they've been "broken in" or worn down a little.

yeah road type makes a huge differnece. but i have also never gotten my BFG's to hook up perfectly on the street. tehy always spin, no matter the PSI and heating them up. mine are almost gone and no longer good for street use but they do hook up at the track

I hear people say on the street nittos hook better than bfg but the bfg hook pretty well at the track i have bfg and they suck on the street can't hook at all but at the track i ran a 1.60 60ft with bad tuning an i know there is more left in these tires for a better 60ft

Tuff,
what suspension mods are you running? I have J&M drag launch control arms, Lakewood panhard rod, Energy suspension trans mount (A4), and Flow-tech torque arm (set at minus 1.5 degrees) and I still can't hook up at the track on ET streets (!)
I would love to get back to BFG drag radials as the ET streets slow me down on the big end (2-3 MPH lower trap speed than DRs)
I am about to install Hotchkis subframes. That may be the missing key ingredient.
Any advice?

Re: Why wont my BFG Drags Hook?
TWS i would try running some more pinion angle try like -3 degrees. all cars seem to be diffrent because weight transfer my car is lowered 1 1/2 inches springs are a little stiffer than stock. when your car launches you want a stiffer spring to plant the tire if your spring is soft the energy is not transfered to the tire/ground and then you get i also run a 3600vig and i leave the line from an idle so i can plant my rear tires better. burn out is key to i don't see why i can't run a low 1.5 to mid 1.5 on bfg hope this helps
