stiffest rear springs?
Who makes the stiffest springs for a f-body? i would like to have a 650 lb/in. rate in the front and a 550 lb/in. rate in the back.

I know what you mean by being "judged" rather than having real quantitative results but its just so much more fun. i didnt want this to be a bash thread... i just needed some simple info. thanks anyways

When you say track only, what do you mean by that? Autocrossing? Road racing? There are a lot of "track only" cars that have nowhere near that spring rate in the rear. Most dual-purpose cars that I know of that have the front spring rate in the 550-600 range will have only 150-200 spring rate in the rear, and those rear rates are dependent on (1) rear sway bar size, (2) type of LCA used, and (3) driving style. Also, you have 17X11 rears which will affect spring rate selection.
I'm getting ready to install 550 GC coilovers up front, but have already installed 150 rear springs. Even with the 1LE front factory springs (360#), my rear feels really nervous and it's easier to spin the rear tires. I strongly recommend you do NOT install that much rear spring, even if you can find that much. I'm pretty sure there are 300# springs, but you just don't need it.

well what i mean by track car is well something that most of you really dont like... since i have never seen a competetive f-body in the drift scene i really want to build one. these high rates are needed for drifting... my old car (240sx) had a 12/10 kg/mm springs f/r which equates to a 670/560 lb/in. f/r and thats a 2700 lb car so i figured i would need these high rates especially since the car weighs much more than 2700 lbs.

It really helps to understand the suspension first. And the fact that the suspension under a 240SX and a 4th gen Camaro are not anything at all alike. Also a Camaro has a *little* more power to start with.
The high rates are not needed (or wanted) for drifting. There were some specs out about the springs and bars used on Millen's GTO which is more like the Camaro than not (and still not the same). It used very high rate fronts, with quite soft rears. You want the rear to be controllable.
My suggestion is to put a big front bar on, a fairly normal set of springs, 4.10's and a real limited slip differential. It'll drift just fine and you'll be able to hang it out and hold it.

ya i know what you mean i just figured a bigger (heavier) car needed stiffer springs thats all. and i did plan on a drag race rear bar, 275 rear/255 front tires, 12 bolt w/ 4.10s and a spool to top it off. also what are some stiff shocks that can handle some higher rates? KYB AGX, Bilstien???

I just recently upgraded to 10" 175# rear linear springs w/GC perches and SA Koni's to raise ride height and stabilize the car, but best advice would be to have your axle weights measured for proper determination on spring rates.
FYI, my rear axle weight is 1950# (approx 400# over stock)
IMO, I don't think you want that stiff of a rear spring. Sam Strano guided me toward the upgrades I required. FYI, blue coil was the manufacturer.

i just wanted to have a really solid rear because it makes transfering from one direction sideways to the next very smooth because of little body roll. im kind of starting from scratch here as you can tell because f-bods in the drift scene are pretty much no where except for some 82-92 models. thanks for the advice
