Default my GSD3s are out past my fender... and im lowering the car

does anybody else have a similar problem? I'm worried that I will run into trouble because the wheels stick out about a 1/4 of an inch past the fender on both sides, and i don't want them to hit the fenders. I'm going to be running Koni SAs and Strano springs with stock swaybars. thanks for any help/advice.

You really just need to post up some pics so we can see what you are dealing with...kinda hard to tell with a word-only description.

Unless there's something we're missing, if they do in fact stick out 1/4" PAST the fender then I'm afraid there is really not much you can do short of narrowing the rear axle or something. Do you have backspacing or offset dimensions on the wheels? Not that it'll help, but in the absence of pics it can at least give an idea of the severity of the problem.

Okay, one thought. I don't remember offhand, but aren't the CCW classics a three-piece wheel? If so, and depending on their construction, they might be able to get you some new inner and outer hoops to change offset. If it IS possible I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap, but I just thought I'd throw it out there...

What kind of wheels are these? I have slightly oversize
(285/40R17) GS-D3s on chrome SS 10-spokes and they
are well inside the fender lip (and it's not rolled) still.

Im running 315s in the rear and currently 275s in the front. I want to try to run a wider wheel at the front but for now its fine. I was looking a little closer and if i just had a narrower tire in the rear, the rim would clear the fender; the GSD3s are just so damn wide. im wondering if i should ust say screw it and trade the springs for some swaybars or if i should try to get a narrower 315 in the rear... and mabie the front at the same time.

oh and i dont have a digital camara, but my dad does, so mabie next time im over at his place ill grab it and snap a few pics.

A lot of people dont understand how wide the GS-D3 is, at a glance, the 275 can pass for a narrow 315.

are you talking about the top of the fender? You really need to make sure you have the right offset when using those 315s and then you still need to bfh, possibly grind the bump stop and roll the fenders.. what offset are you running? You really need to get the correct offset when running tires that big or else you get yourself in trouble.. Those are some really nice wheels, im sure with the help on here you can get them to fit.

If you want 315 in the rear use Nitto's as they run narrow. The GSD3's run wide so just switch out your rear tires and you should be fine. Or roll your fender some.

Im on the 10 bolt still though, thats why im hessitent to get the nitto drag radials. does nitto make a similar sized street 315?

the offset is +46 i think which should ahve been fine. i had to use a bfh to clear the other side of the tire, so its not like the offset is compleetely off. i was told when i baught these that the rims would clear the fender, guess i just need different tires...

I believe +50 is the correct offset (assuming you have a Camaro).

From Xsta Z 28's handy sticky in the wheels and tires section:

but i have 11.5 inch rims not 11 inch, so wouldn't +46 compensate for the slightly bigger rim?

No, the +46mm is 4mm or .157" less that a +50mm offset so even with a 11" wide wheel your offset would push the wheel out .157" and hit the fender lip.

But with 11.5" wide wheels yours will stick out .657" more that the common 17 x 11 wheels with a +50mm offset most run with a 315 tire.

Were the wheels origionally built for a ZO6 Corvette or did you buy them new to that offset?

Basically your have the wrong offsets for lowering your car. Those are nice wheels but I bet they stick out noticably from the fender lips to where they are starting to look a little ghetto.

No, it makes it worse.

Its pretty clear that the wheel dimensions you have there are not really compatible with the F-body, so I'm going to say this again: these are 3-piece wheels. Have you contacted CCW to see if they can sell you new hoops to bring them down to a reasonable width (ie 11") and adjust the offset into the neighborhood of +50mm? I don't know the exact construction of these wheels, but sometimes this kind of thing is do-able with a 3-piece wheel...

Call them and talk to Chip - he's a good guy and quite helpful.

Thanks for the clarification, but I dont appreciate that ghetto comment at all. Its quite rude, especially without a picture. The issue is nowhere near what you are picturing. with a smaller tire, the rims DO fit, i can try to get a picture later. The rims were designed for an F-body, not a corvette... or at least thats what i was told by the seller.
