Default ? About Hawk pads.

Ok so i want to get some hawk pads but for some reason i keep hearing from all of my "import" owner friends that they all squeak horribly. I told them that i havent heard alot of f-body owners that complain about it and that they probably didnt break them in properly... and they were like "what? whats breaking them in properly?" lol, so im assuming they just didnt break them in properly. Can anyone confirm that they dont squeak horribly?

I have been using Hawk HPS pads on street cars for probably 10 years and during that time, I only had a single application that made any noise and that was my '00 GTP. Not sure why to be honest since my bedding procedure is always the same and they were being used with Autozone Duralast blanks - a combination I have used several times in the past without issue.

Based on my overall experience I feel comfortable saying that you can buy Hawk HPS pads with confidence and not worry about them squealing. I cannot speak to how the other Hawk pads are for noise, though, since my experience is really limited to HPS.

Not to hijack because I'm sure Fulton 1 would like to know too...

But what exactly is your bedding procedure? Because if it is working, then I'd like to know in case I buy these pads (strongly considering them). Thanks!

I put HPS pads on the rear of my 2002 Z28 and they get quite noisy when they are warm. This may be specific to my car since it's not a common report on these pads, but mine do make noise once you get some heat in the brakes (stop and go traffic, after a rapid stop, etc). Otherwise, they are quiet (most of the time).

I just did the c5 conversion up front and used HPS pads on all 4's. Absolutely no noise warm or cold. I used a lite coat of an anti squeak grease from AutoZone on the shims and anti rattle springs. Maybe that helps, maybe its unnecessary.

That's how my GTP fronts behaved too, Kevin. They'd do it when they got warm. Weird - seems to be hit or miss.

weird... Hawk pads on my wife's Evo squeal like all get out - you'd think the wheels were about to fall off. Every other vehicle I've seen them on are nice and quiet

My fronts are Wilwoods with the Thermoloc pistons. When I run HP+ pads on those calipers, they are obnoxious. I mean "wife won't ride with me" loud. Which is ok since I don't like those pads (for my use) anyway. I think it's a combination of the friction level/line pressure needed to stop and the extra layer of sheet metal (thermolocks) that sets up a squeal.

My rears have always been quiet with stock pads, various carbotechs, HP+, etc. This is the first set of HPS I've used on my own car (the fronts are Ferodo DS2500's in the Wilwoods) and when they get warm, they get noisy. They are quiet on my friends 99 Mustang GT with Cobra front brakes and a Cobra IRS/rear brakes. They've been quiet on most other cars I've driven with them, but my car makes noises. I haven't cared to fix it. I'll just change pads when these die.

I have had a set on my DD for about a year with no problems. I used the break in that Hawks recommended.
