Default broke my tq arm, which one now? pics

I posted this in the drag racing section but want your guys opinion too

this is the second time i have had a torque arm failure in 2 tries on MT Drags.

so i go to the track today, an 1/8th mile track which is well known for having no traction, and i launch soft on my first run to a 1.9 60'. everything is fine.

then for my second run, i heat up the tires well and try to launch harder, around 5000 rpms. when i release the clutch pedal, all i hear is something snap, and my car felt like it was in neutral all of sudden. we all know what that means...

GOING TO THE TRACK

LEAVING THE TRACK

4.30 gears + 28" MT ET Drags = death for UMI Torque Arm

so what torque arm now?

when i release the clutch pedal, ....

Was this a "dump" of the clutch? I have seen a few other threads where a certain model (early versions) had an issue with not being a strong design. You might want to contact UMI regarding whether this is one of those inferior designs. I am pretty sure it is the earlier one, since their current TA has a triangular plate that's welded all the way to the upper connection point, not the rectangular plate that you have.

Also, Spohn and BMR make some extreme duty torque arms. But they cost some $$.

well, if it was an old design then there is no reason not to go with the new UMI. I have every other susp. piece from them.

i wonder if Ryan would cover this piece like he offered to in the other thread. that would be nice, especially considering its gonna be another 400 for the ds again

also, it wasnt what i would call a dump, more like a fast slip of the clutch

Hello,

Well thats not good to see.

Yes we will replace it for you free of charge. PM me your name so I can find you in the system and get a new one on its way. You will also be replaced with a newer design and you will never see that happen again. Sorry for the troubles.

Thank you,
Ryan

UMI is really a champ! I would not hesitate to use their current product line.
Based on your penchant for drag racing, I would pay the difference and upgrade to their chassis mounted TA with the DSL.

Great to see a manufacturer stand behind there products no questions ask. UMI is truly a standup company.

Hell'sChariot, thanks for the order, sorry for the delay on the torque arm but UMI's products are in such high demand that there has been a short wait to get ahold of them.

Is it possible the u-joint gave out first and destroyed the torque arm? Then again... Looking at the pictures, I don't see any impact marks on the arm that would indicate anything like that. I guess the pinion angle just gets too severe and destroys the joint? Yikes! BTW, is that out at Irwindale?

PS: Amazing customer service from UMI!

the u-joint was a brand new piece out at the track for the first time since the last breakage, and i am 100% sure the torque arm breaking caused the driveshaft breaking.

that was at Perris Dragway man

yeah no question. with no torque arm the pumpkin would rotate upwards and snap the shaft. kudos for UMI and their customer service badassery. I hope Spohn will stand by their $3k stuff I bought from them if I ever have any trouble.

That is great customer service. Unlike some brands that say they will not cover it if your running a Moser 12 bolt.

Exactly, I had a BMR trak pack torque arm, Bolt on's plus slicks I broke the 3/8" plate, they said I had a moser, no warranty. I welded it back together, and the welds where it meets at the front poly mount snapped, I welded it and reinforced it again, now Im just fed up with it, and will probably fab up my own. Nice to see UMI stands behind their stuff though..... Very Very cool.
