you should be able to find a set of spindles on here or ebay for $75-100. If you decide to keep your LT1 spindles then you can go with UMI C5 brakes adapters and C5 abutment brackets (caliper brackets) and your LS1 calipers. Doing so will bring you up to 13 front brakes and may require a 17 or larger wheel.

The steering knuckle is the main part. Can you run the larger rotors on your car?

If so, here are the steps of doing the LT1 to C5 swap. You can keep you LT1 knuckles, but you will have to do some cutting on them. Maybe the difference in price to get bigger 13" rotors is worth it for you.

I have stock wheels right, so I believe the ls1 size rotors are as big as I can go.
I already have everything for the swap except for the knuckles. Can I cut the knuckles for the ls1 rotors aswell? I looked on ebay and can only find complete sets with rotors etc, or single lh knuckles.

Cutting the knuckle is only for the 13" rotor swap.

You might try some of the parts guys here on this site. Check the for sale and needed sections. There are quite a few guys who buy these cars and part them out. Maybe they will sell just the knuckles.

Because they are completely different. The LT1 has molded brake caliper holders while the LS1 has just 2 bolt holes on the knuckle. The caliper bolts to a PAB (pad abutment bracket) and then the PAB bolts to the knuckle. If you don't know this I'm not sure your ready to do the swap.

Do you already have the new calipers, PABs, rotors, pads and all the small parts?

The PAB bolts need to be torqued properly and loctite applied. Do you have all the torque specs and instructions?

Here's a pic of the LS1 unit. See how the brakes are attached with 2 bolts?

The LT1 has large molded mounts made in to it that the caliper bolts onto.

The LS1 has the PAB (black piece) that goes between the caliper and knuckle/spindle piece.

That's a pretty good guide, but I would go and get a Chiltons manual from the local autoparts. It will show torque specs.
The 2 big bolts from the PAB to the spindle need to have loctite and be torqued to 75lbs. This is important.
The guide pin bolts from the PAB to the caliper are smaller and only need 23lbs plus loctite.
There is also some guide pin lube that is silicone and high temp at the local auto parts store. I would get some of that as well.

Are you good at seperating ball joints? I have this pic I made up a while back.

Just thread the castle nuts back on part way and make sure you don't hit them. This will catch the part and keep it from falling on the floor.

Is there any advantage to replacing the ball joints? I just had a state inspection, they didn't say anything about the ball joint, but the car is a 93z......

They don't check those parts. It's hard to say the condition of them. You'll know once the knuckle is off. Just wiggle them back and forth. They should be pretty stiff and hard to move. If they flop around easily or with a tiny amount of hand presure then replace them. It's better to do it during the brake swap than to tear the suspension down again later.

You can rent a ball joint puller / seperater from Autozone for free. I think I sold my LS1 spindles for $50 last year. Look around you'll find some.
