Thumbs up CTS-V brakes

ok guys have been reading this thread over and over again.
I am going to try this 14" C6 Z06 rotor & CTS-V brake caliper upgrade.
i have some OEM C5 Z06 wheels 18x10.5 on all 4 corners, no spacers....
(the reason i use these wheels is because i have access to FREE used tires 285/35R18) (also its not easy finding 4 of these OEM wheels. i believe tomzwheels has these wheels and sizes)
i have about 2 1/4" gap from the 14" C6 Z06 rotor to C5 Z06 wheel.
i have about 1 1/2" gap from a stock LS1 caliper.
i have pics to show this clearance snice i stayed late at work mocked it up ( i am lacking the CTS-V calipers, and brake hoses, they will arrive moday 1/26/2009
heres just a few pictures,
Lets get some progress on these brakes.

What do you mean progress? On this thread? I consider it closed. It's a done deal.

If anyone is wondering why I didn't add them to my car, it's because I plan to swap to some different spindles.

No disrespect JasonWW, but I have yet to see anyone post a completed successful CTS-V 14" brake upgrade on this site on a 4th gen. Although I have seen them on 3rd gens. If they have I can't find them
Jason thank you for starting the thread and getting us info, other wise i would have installed the C5 brakes! I will post up pictures of my install
And thanks to all the other members as well.

Can you use a C6 Z51 Rotor with these calipers? I believe they are 13.5" instead of the 14", is that 1/2" a big deal?

Does any one have pics of the caliper mounted to the spindle without the rotor on?

Yeah, it is kind of a big deal. How would you move the mounting holes on the spindle 1/4" closer to the hub? It would be some serious work.

Maybe the holes on the spindle can be elongated and then the outer portion filled in with a welder. Or maybe you could cut off the mounting lugs and use a special made Bob Bishop style bolt on mount.

Good to see people are starting to do this. I was attempting to get this done, but I needed a different set of wheels, and the classics didn't sell in time before I lost access to them for a while. Anyway, they look good.

No Juice: Another option, If you want to run a z51 rotor, would be to pick up an evo front caliper set and fabricate a bracket. The mounting points, are not the same distance appart as the GM offset, so it wouldnt be as easy of a swap, but the mounting arms are alot shorter. The evos run a 12.8 diamater rotor (if memory servres me...), so the stock camaro rotor might even be able to work with the correct bracket. If not the stock camaro, then the C5 wouold be another option to try.

Well I wasn't sure so I had to ask, so it looks like a 14" rotor is a must. I did try to test fit them today with my 18" Ruff racing wheels. They did not fit with about an 1/8" spacer. They were close but I might need to try a 1/4" spacer. I think going to a 3/4" hubcentric adapter might be too much and push the wheel out to far.

Hence the title of the thread.
Going to a 1/2" smaller rotor isn't going to change your caliper to spoke clearance.
You would probably need to run a 1/4" spacer and some longer studs just to be on the safe side.

JasonWW you say you would have done this upgrade if it wasn't for a new direction, so I would assume value vs. performance is good?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to buy these parts if I would like to take this project on. I need to catch up and back read some of these post on installation mods, so I am not sure if I want to go this direction or C6 Z06. PM sites to buy these parts if they are not sponsors and can not be posted.

I also have CCW 18" 505A's, do you think they will need a spacer?

Thanks guys. BTW how is the progress for those working on this swap? And what are you guys doing to make the rears match up a little better, I would think this set up would look odd with that front rotor being so unique and the rears not even coming close to looking the same.

Yes, the value vs. performance is excellent. Where else can you get a front big brake kit for under $2,000?

Even though I'm changing to a shorter spindle, I'm going to see if I can figure out a way to use these same parts with my new setup.

What is your opinion of the C6 ZO6 front brake swap. It is also significantly less than 2000, I think just over a grand for calipers, pads, rotors, steel lines, etc. Seems like for that price 6 piston would be the way to go, maybe the CTS-V kit is even less than the Z06 kit?
