Some of the C6 Z06 caliper downfalls are due to them being a completely new design. This means very few aftermarket pads are available. What is available are quite expensive since you have 6 padlets per caliper. The Brembo built CTS-V calipers are a proven design and use a common pad shape shared with many other cars. Plus there are only 2 per caliper and that means lower prices.

Under hard use the Z06 padlets tad to wear unevenly which means you have to check them more often and replace any pads wore down excessively. The pad material is also thinner so they don't last as long.

Lastly (on the Z06), the heat and pressure of hard use tends to bend the pad retainer bolts making them very difficult to remove. If the dealership can't get the bolts out they will just replace the whole caliper under warranty. We won't get a warranty, so we'll have to pay out of pocket.

The C6 Z06 rotors seem to be fine.

wow this has really caught my attention. Jason with all that info you just posted thats in regards to the C6 brakes both calipers and rotors, right? So by going with the C6 rotors which dont seem to be faulty by themselves and going with the Caddy calipers which are proven performers you would be getting a top performing brake setup. I like where this is going.

^^thanks. just looked them up and they are $94.60 a piece.

so for the CTS-V calipers ($183.59 x 2) and the C6 rotors ($94.60 x 2) it looks to cost $678.78 plus tax and shipping.

ya well i just looked again and that is actually the total including shipping and all unless you live in NC then you gotta pay more. so i guess $678.78 is the total cost.

I was talking about the C6 Z06 calipers to be specific.

I haven't heard of any problems from racers using the C6 Z06 rotor. The only thing slightly funky about them is that the cooling vanes run different directions because the same rotor fits on both sides. Some people have suggested that one side might get overheated, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

The only other thing is that the cross drilling faces clockwise on one side of the car, and counterclockwise on the other side. That might be a problem if you're extremely ****.

Man, that's high shipping. I get my stuff local. No shipping cost, but I do have to pay tax.

$700 is still chump change compared to most big brake kits. I think the Stoptech kit is $2000. The Porsche big red setup might be a little bit less, but it's still up there.

ya thats what i mean C6 Z06. Im subscribed to this thread and the other ongoing one about this. I can see the C6 Z06 rotors and CTS-V calipers on my car in the near future. I just need someone to test them out first and see if 18.8.5 rims will work with them

Do you already have the rims? If so, you can measure them.

It's hard to say. Do you have any pics of those rims on an LS1 car? We might be able to tell from that. If it looks close, a thin spacer may get the job done. If it's not close at all then you'll have to consider a thicker spacer or a 3/4" or larger adapter. Those are pretty cheap, but might not look good.

18's should clear the top of the caliper, so just measure the area I show in my picture. You need 1.2" of space from the spokes.

damn so with a 18x8.5 rim you would only have .2 clearance. So at that point its dependent on the offset and style of the spokes on the rim. man this is cutting it close.

I'm a little confused by your statement. Are you saying you have 1.4" (1 3/8") of spoke clearance right now?

Thumbs up

I just measured my spoke clearance and it's 1 1/8" max.
Are the ZO6 rotors hats any thicker then on the camaro/firebird,
if they are maybe that will give me the clearance I need..........?

Nope, clearance will be real close on yours. It may clear or you'll need a thin spacer. All the C5/C6 rotors mount the rotor further out than the F-bodies so you lose some room right there, then the thickness of the caliper is what really takes up space. The combination of the 2 takes away right around 1.2" (1 1/4")
