Sam Strano have them cheap. As far as rusting, well they will rust but to fight that rust, you can paint the hats before installing them.

All rotors rust if they are just normal rotors. The area that contacts the pads looks clean because the brakepads clean that area off.

There's what bene said, or something else people have mentioned in the past that prevents rust.... zinc washing or something? Not sure what that does to the stopping ability or rotor integrity though... I wouldn't know

Bought mine from Sam. Sam advised not to paint the hat of the rotors.

Honestly I dont remember the reason,It was about a year ago when I asked him. Maybe you can pm him and ask him or if he sees the post he can explain why. Ill deal with a little rust look then risk anything.

Of course, I don't find anyone from TireRack around this site, do you?

As for painting, easy.... Thick paints like brake paint don't let heat escape as well. If you want to paint the non-friction surface that's up to you. I could care less and wouldn't on my stuff (and don't).

What about getting the rotors zinc plated? i found this place http://www.sonicplatinginc.com/ and emailed them and they said it would roughly cost 47 bucks for four rotors

You are right Sam, noone from TireRack posts on here and thus, cannot really cater their suggestions to our group.

They might have slightly lower prices, but the knowledge you get from Sam is worth the extra money. Also, when you call back for help you get the same Service Representative that you talked to when you bought stuff (Sam)
