Default ride quality

im about to get some 17's for my car and i think im gonna lower it with some strano springs. i don't realy know about what shocks to run but if it is possible i want it to ride like stock. i feel like this is hard to do after lowering my mustang and feeling the horrible ride quality but i figured i would ask anyways.

The better the shocks, the better the ride.... But stiffer springs are stiffer springs and not much differently than a pick-up, the stiffer the springs with a given load, the firmer the ride is. Stiffer springs just don't compress as easily. The ride will be more firm, no doubt. But most folks had the harshness, not the firmness and that's what shocks help with.

Really I see Revalves, or better yet, Koni's as the only really good options. Most other shocks aren't meant for lowering springs at all, or say they are, but are quite poor at actually controlling them.

Just save up for the Koni's and springs even if it takes you a couple of years. better off doing it right the first time!

I just figured that I survived this semester with pretty decent grades (I think), so I'm treating myself.

If having choices in damping is better, yes. I run Koni's on my car, and I've had some folks change up from various shocks, including Revalves to Koni's and not one has regretting it. Revalves are not supposed to be equal to Koni's, they are around to fill a performance gap beyond HD's and cheap shocks, but save money vs. Koni's.

Is having HP tuners, a dyno and a wideband better than a mail-order PCM tune? Basically the same thing.

I have the stock springs, removed the rear rubber from above the springs, and have the lower perch setup on the konis and after running 18s for about a year, switched the rims, with the 17s and thicker tires I actually noticed an improvement in the ride.....just feels more solid and less clunky.....might just be me though

Sorry to , but what are the best shocks for stock springs in the rear and either a stock spring with a cut coil, or a 1" lowering spring for the front? Thanks.

Because "good ride quality" isn't the same for everyone. What makes a Hyundai a good car for one guy, but a Camaro for someone else? Because they are looking for different things from the car. Bob might think Sushi is good food--I don't.

I'm not going to lie and say you need Koni's or anything. But more than a few folks in the world have bought something thinking it's fine, and it might have been for a while. But later found they might have underbought.

Are shocks cheap? No. But your exhaust mods cost a lot too. And shocks are much more important to the way the car drives/rides and handles.

Could you put any shock on the car and be happier? Maybe, depends on what you don't like about the car now and how bad your stock shocks are worn. Is better than what you have now good? Is it good enough? I don't really know for you, I can't know by e-mail. And you have to really think hard and pay attention to what the car does when you drive it to try and figure it out.

I have had both, and I feel the Koni's was worth what I paid for them. If I had aftermarkert springs I would go koni 100%.

There nice. People will pay 900 for a catback but not for shocks. People just forgot about the car and only think about HP too many times(not saying you just most) Just like people putting 44 boggers on a stock 4cycl and not upgrading the axles or the engine.

Generally, the "ride quality" your feeling is the shock expanding after it hits a bump(and compresses). With single adjustable shocks like Konis (there are also double adjustable available, which you can adjust the bound, or "compression" I guess you would call it) you can adjust how quickly the shocks expand after hitting a bump. The quicker they expand, generally, the better the ride will be, but at the same time handling may suffer. So you can personally adjust the ride/handling to fit what you feel is best, and adjust if you want better handling etc.
