Default Urgent Question

I am replacing the brake fluid in my 99 Trans AM. How do I do this? Do I just pump the brakes in the reverse order in which I bleed them? When I bleed them, I do back left, back right, front right, then front left?

Also, how about a whole process in replacing pads, proper torque specs, and proper bleeding? Thanks A lot.

To change fluid, I simply bleed it through, just don't let the master cylinder run dry (11 pumps rear, 5 front is pretty safe...then refil).

To keep the new fluid from getting so contaminated withn the old, I suggest you buy a turkey baster from Wal-Mart and suck as much of the fluid out of the reservoir as possible. Then fill it with new.

I bleed them in the RR, LR, RF, LF order when flushing. When yu are chasing an air bubble, then you LF, RF, LR, RR ....

There is a brake pad/rotor write-up in www.installuniversity.com

I hate to admit that I've never seen a torque spec for the caliper. I know that one exsists, but I have always gone with "snug plus a slight amount and possibly some locktite". Not too professional (I've been doing this a long time, but experience is not a true substitute for the correct answer), but I've never had one come off. I'd check a shop manual or if you are friendly with the guys at your local dealer, they may tell you. I'll take a look, if I can find one, I'll post it.

You can get ATE "super blue" brake fluid and when you see blue fluid...you are rid of the old stuff. THey make a gold version as well. It's good stuff and about $9 a quart.
