Koni shocks and what springs? suspension/chassis in general
All,
I haven't done anything to my suspension yet. I like the idea that Koni has adjustable shocks, compression and rebound I believe...
What about those with G2 springs? Anyone doin that?
And how would this compare to the Proline and Sportline kits with Bilsteins??
And at the same time I would put in SFC's and lower control arms, with relocation brackets. And the G2 torque arm for good measure.
How does this sound. I want this chassis rigid, and springs that won't kill me on a daily driver but are Stiff!
Thanks for any input.

Re: Koni shocks and what springs? suspension/chassis in general
I'm running H&R springs with Koni DA shocks, etc. The whole setup is in my sig and pics are on my website. I'll not relist it all here. Take a look and if I can help, drop me a line (I'll check on this post again). THe H&R springs are stiffer than most of the spring rates that I've seen listed for similar kits (fronts are 640 in lb rears are 258 in lb, per the spring rate formula, a digital micrometer and my calculator....I didn't get a chance to have them actually measured, but the formula is fairly close). Good luck!

I'm running Koni S/A ports with the pro kit. Awesome handling & the ride at high speeds is great. The ride is rough on anything other than smooth pavement, but well worth it to me.

So Kevin,
How much did the H&R springs lower you from stock?
And how does the car feel on the street?
And you would weld in SLP bolt on subframes? They sound like they have the best subframes, right?
thanks

Viper....
It is alot of rear spring (or so it seems). The ride is not bad. It is stiff (and on bad pavement it can be real choppy, but that is the nature of the beast). I am running Koni bump rubbers on the rear shocks and only have 1/4 inch of travel before I contact the bump rubbers (which act as auxillary springs....so I'm actually running far more than the 258 in lb that the spring is rated at if there is much suspension travel). I have to "packers" in there now and may remove them (to free up another 1/4 inch of travel). Due to the spring rate and bump rubbers, I'm running stock sway bars on stock bushings. I'm thinking of changing this soon (may try the 1LE setup with poly bushings). And, Viper, if you ever make it down here, I'll take you for a spin (it rides much better than you expect).
Hydrodesign,
The H&R springs (originally called "stage 2", now called "sport" springs) lowered me about 1.5 inches (give or take a little 1.3-1.6...I never measured). The car feels great on the street (except for rough pavement....potholes, etc....as expected). I'm using SLP weld in connectors and would weld the bolt in set if I were doing it again. The powdercoating may actually have a chance of staying on the connectors. I've used engine paint, spray on bedliner and some undercoating to keep mine from rusting. If I could get them off to paint them (yea, right....) I'd clean them well and use spray in bedliner to coat them (if I were doing it again).
On the first winding road, it all becomes worth it!!!!

Re: Koni shocks and what springs? suspension/chassis in general
Thanks for the data, Kevin.
I've got an SS, with whatever package came with it, (no upgraded suspension) 1LE, I am guessing. And the springs are so soft, ridiculous nose dive.
I've got the deCarbon shocks as well, stock. Should I change both out together?

Ouch,I just called TireRack and the Koni Double Adjustable's are $338 Each for the Front, and $280 Each for the Rear.
The H&R sport springs are $198 for 4

Re: Koni shocks and what springs? suspension/chassis in general
I was going to warn you that the Koni's are rather expensive. Now you know why my motor is still mostly stock....lol.
I've run the Eibach Pro Kit springs on a 3rd gen and they work well, but I like the H&R kit better. For serious track use, I still may try more spring (against Sam's advice). But, for street and autocross use, I really like them. You may want to take a look at www.ground-control.com. THeir Front coil over kit is sweet (and reasonably priced) and the rear kit that allows you to adjust ride height works very well. They also sell shocks and give a "usage recommendation" on each one....

That would be cool. Mine looks mostly stock, it's all underneath (except the T-top that blew off on Monday afternoon.....parts will be in tomorrow....). I'd like to see how yours idles and drives to decide what to do engine-wise.

Re: Koni shocks and what springs? suspension/chassis in general
The setup I'm using is very stable at high speed. The Koni's keep the car from "floating" at higher speeds. The LCA's and PHB keep the wheels pointed in the right direction. The SFC's stiffen the chassis which allows the springs to be springs (instead of flexing the chassis and using the body as a big spring). Those items are a big step in the right direction for high speed use (or another good quality shock). It depends on what your budget is and what your exact goals are...but basically, for high speed stuff, you need damping, spring rate and stiffness (suspension and chassis...suspension as in LCA's etc, not just insane spring rates). Those things will get you started....

Re: Koni shocks and what springs? suspension/chassis in general
Kevin,
I didn't realize that the Koni S/A adjusted both rebound and compression. I think I'm gonna go with those and H&R sports.
sound good?

I'm also gonna get the weld in SLP's and coat them with some spray bedliner, LineX, etc.
What do the SLP sfc's tie in to in the center of the car? You only need to buy the one pair right, no other connectors needed?
