Default Does the spanner wrench really work??

I just tried adjusting my front hals with the spanner wrench and this damn junky thing just bends and twists. Do I have to get the spring compressors again to adjust them? If so these are gonna be a pain to setup.

I think you just got your hands on a cheap tool, thats it. Look around at jegs, they should have some good quality ones.

I used a large pair of channel locks on mine. They worked infinitely better than the HAL spanner wrench.

Get some torrington bearings and place them between the adjuster and spring. That will let that thing turn so much nicer!!

Hmm I like the torrington bearing idea. May have to give that a try. For right now I think the channel lock(or pipe wrench) is gonna have to do.

I was told (haven't followed through yet) that the Harbor Freight spanner wrench is much better than the HAL one. I didn't even bother with the HAL spanner, I've heard it's pretty much a 1-use disposable tool.

it is very true that the qa1 spanner is not the best out there, but it is not the worst either, moroso has a very nice, heavy duty one that i have always used to go along with the kit, also the qa1 torrington is a nice upgrade, makes it much easier to turn

Whatever spanner you use, it helps a lot to put the wrench in a 8-12" piece of pipe for better leverage. I just took my Hal spanner, ground slightly on the handle to get it into, I believe it's a 12" piece of black pipe (for gas or water at your home), and presto. However, it will make it much easier to adjust if you slightly compress the springs with your spring compressors. Take care.

lube the threads up some and use a good spanner wrench... the one I got is like 1/4" thick steel w/ an hinged head on it.. check around for the moroso one or this mysterious harbour freight one.

Lube the threads, put on a big deep socket that will fit on the handle or use some pipe, and there you go. Its not the best, but it definately works. Im sure there is better quality wrenches out there, but Im doing good with mine. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldnt of bought the QA1 wrench, I would of bought it somewhere else. Make sure you keep it level too because otherwise it will just keep slipping off. Also, when you hook the tooth or whatnot, fully extend it out, then tug on it, because theres 2 positions that it will allow you to get a grip of on the rings, but the closest one in, is the wrong one. Hope that helps.
