Default Brake Convertion

Hey guys,

We'll since it's winter and I have a good paying job I am stock piling parts, I have a lot to catch up on since I was in school. My question is what do I need to convert my car over to a better brake system, I am going to get a bigger wheel/tire setup to suit the larger brakes... I have been looking at a C5 vette setup which I can get for pretty cheap, I just need to buy the pieces seperatly...

For the front I figure I need:

- Caliper mounting bracket
- C5 Calipers
- Brake roters
- ? Do I need a C5 brake line as well? I am looking to upgrade to stainless lines anyways but not sure if the C5 or Camaro are any different...

For the Rear:

- C5 rear caliper
- Brake roters
- Mounting bracket
- ? Same question about the brake lines?

I know some of you guys have done this before so I am sure you can help me out with this. If you guys have other suggestions on where to look/what to do I am all ears, I'm just trying to keep it within reason ($).

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

Devin

I did the front C-5 brake conversion last summer and am very happy with it. I bought the whole package through WS6 Store. It came with the UMI relocation brackets, Hawk HP pads, new Corvette calipers and rotors. I had read up a lot on here before buying and it seemed to me that the UMI brackets are the way to go. I did not change to Vette brake lines but I would advise you to. I'm going to change my lines this next summer. Your stock lines will work with the UMI brackets but with other brackets I have read that the lines can reach the limit at full turn. My whole thing works great.

As far as converting the rear brakes, there really is no advantage to doing that. But do a search and read up. I'll try to find the link.

One more thing, you are aware that you have to cut the lower 'ear' off the stock spindle, where the stock caliper goes on, to make the conversion? I used a saws-all.

This is not just a bolt on.

great... thanks for the help... Looks like what I will do is the front setup, and just the rotors and pads for the rear... I am still going to do stainless steel lines all the way around.

would it be ok just to upgrade the rotors and not the calipers?? i hear the f body pistons are bigger but the corvette has a better non flexing cast!

I too am getting ready to make this upgrade and have heard from many that the rears arent really nessecary, more of a personal preference.

You can upgrade the rotors to better quality F-body sized rotors and use the stock calipers of course. The stock rotors are really the problem, not the calipers.

But you can't put Corvette rotors on your F-body without relocation brakets. The rotors are larger and the calipers need to be moved to align up. So you need the relocation brackets and have to modify the spindles.
