Default Brakes failed while driving

while driving home from work my brakes was working fine for about a mile. Then when i came in front of a stop sign, i stepped on the brakes. I didnt slam on it. while stepping on it, it stopped half way and then the brake pedal went straight down to the floor. I had no brakes for like 4-5 seconds. Is it safe to drive the car?

lemme think...if you can't stop a 3500lb car safely, i'm gonna say you probably shouldn't take it out of the driveway until you figure out the problem. common sense...

Yeah no ****. Check your brake fluid and make sure everything looks okay. There is clearly a serious problem.

that happened in my sisters honda. we had to change out the brakes master cylinder. so maybe you should take it to a local mechanic (trailer it there) and let them look at teh brakes.

Maybe the clamp on the brake arm fell out, happened to me once scared the crap out of me, very hard to see the clamp, you have to get a flashlight and look on the arm of the peddle. If your missing the clamp you can buy it from a gm dealer for I think 50 cents!

Talked to my mechanic and he said to bring it down and he's gonna put it on a hoist. I have a feeling it's my master cylinder. I hope i'm right.
