Will 340 tread wear last long?

Re: Will 340 tread wear last long?
It is a wear index under goverment test conditions. They claim a 400 tread wear will last 2 times as long as a 200 tread wear. Most performance tires run between 180 and 240 (goodyear eagle VR50 "gatorbacks" were 220) and my Goodyear Eagle GS-CS competition tires are rated at 20. You won't find many tires that are over 400 and 340 is fairly far up the scale. I'd say that they will last longer than most. THe tradeoff (in many cases) is a slightly harder tread compound and reduced traction (that's why my race tires are a 20). You'll have to decide what is right for you.

One other thing: I found out that the tread wear rating is based on the speed rating of the tire.
A tire that has a better tread wear rating (i.e., a 400 versus a 340) is only being compared to other tires in that speed rating.
What that means is that a 340 tread wear rating on a H-rated tire isn't the same as a 340 tread wear rating on a Z-rated tire.
Just something to watch out for.

I believe it is referenced off of a "standard". Meaning a 200 will outlast a 100 (under test conditions, and probably under actual use) no matter what speed it is rated for. Try this link:

The UTQG rating is regaurded as the biggest
joke in the tire industry. The manufacturers
can put whatever they want on them.
Take this for example my KD rated at 100
lasted longer than my KDWS which are 300+.
I don't even drive hard. And PSI checked reguraly
Mostly ALL tires that
are wide or high speed rated will not have a
wear rating warranty because the UTQG is no
judge of how long they will last.
