Default EBay "Mastergrade" crossdrilled / slotted rotors

Did a Search in this forum for "Mastergrade" and came up with nothing.

Just wondering if anyone has purchased these crossdrilled and slotted rotors off of EBay? Even though these are sold by someone here in the US, I have a feeling these rotors are manufactured in Taiwan.

I did a Google search for "Mastergrade" and found a Taiwanese company with that name that makes damned near anything you could name from toys to car light bulbs. I would think that it is more than likely the same company.

Anyway, they may not be a bad rotor... Who knows

The "Buy Now" price on EBay is $130 for the two front rotors + $24 shipping .... Or, $250 for all four rotors + $39 shipping. They can be ordered with either straight or curved slots (see pic below)

Again, just wondering if anyone has got any input about these.

BTW... This is not an endorsement for these non-sponsored rotors (no link provided). I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these low cost alternatives.

Thanks,

Never heard of them. iRotors has contacted us about becoming a sponsor, they sell an inexpensive drilled/slotted set also. Hopefully they can join up.

Tony...

How ya doing ol' bud? I read the thread about those iRotors. They are pretty reasonable too, but I think the price on these Mastergrades are even a little cheaper. Oh Well...

Of course, if the Mastergrades are junk rotors, it would make no difference how cheap they are...

I have these rotors, I bought the set of 4. It's been about 4 months now, no problems yet. Matergrade buys blank rotors, and they cut them. Mine were brembo rotors that they cut. It seems like there is less brake fade, and I can't seem to be able to warp them, and I really tried to the 1st. 90 days. Great rotors IMO.

OC BlackZ28... thanks for the reply

I tried to call the guy on EBay that sells these, but nobody answered the phone. They don't seem to have a company web page. They list the company address as Long Beach. I sure don't know anything about the company, but out of the hundred or so EBay buyers comments, there were only about 15 or so very negative. Oh Well...

Thats wierd, I know that they are here in C.A, near me. They don't open till 9:00 I think, and It's only 9:00 a.m right now. The local # for them is 562-307-4482, and the website is www.mastergrade.net . They seemed pretty cool when I went and picked mine up. Man, did they have alot of boxes shipping out the day I was down there.
Hope that helps

Thanks....

I just got a hold of them on the phone. Talked to some guy named "Boomer". Said he would discount the price down to $240 + $30 shipping to Phoenix. Thats $270 to the door. He said they do not come from Taiwan. They are sourced by a company called Autospecialty.com

I gotta really think about this.....

That's who helped me, Boomer is his nick name. They buy blank rotors from them and do the cutting in house.
Autospecialty makes rotors in the US. I am very happy with mine.

severe duty cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors are marketed under the brand of Power Stop and allow air to flow through & over the rotor more effectively.

Here we go again with the "flow-through ventilation" theories on cross drilled rotors.....

See here:

https://ls1tech.com/threads/showflat...21&fpart=1

The reasons behind crossdrilling rotors are covered fairly thoroughly in the above thread. I'm hesitant to buy parts from any vendor that does not have a basic understanding of how their product works and what it does or doesn't do. This applies to any vendor, not just brakes or this specific case. The other option is their marketing department is larger than their engineering department....

As always....just my thoughts....

As a side note, it is nice to see that they don't cut the slots all the way off the edge of the rotor. That is a step in the right direction.

Are the mastergrade rotors zinc coated? That might account for the price difference.

I really didn't mean for that so sound so "smart". I re-read it and wanted to make sure that nobody misunderstood me. Sarcasm dosen't transmit well in "type". But anyway....

Are they showing any signs of rust yet?

Yes they were showing signs of rust. They are not zinc coated, so they will rust if they are not painted, I used high heat black spary paint when I started noticing the rust, So far, all is o.k.
Sorry it took so long to respond, I was out this weekend.

After reading all the info, it seems that if looks are not the factor, a quality set of solid rotors, i.e. Brembos, are the best bang, combined with good pads, fluid and lines.

That exact setup has done amazing things for my brake performance. It's shocking how much difference a new set of pads can make.
