Pretty much this. I'll try to help out an LS1Tech guy, but I'm not really trying to pay more $400 for a core when the extra effort to deal with the core yard will save me $100-$150. The later models are definitely worth more than a couple hundred, but that's one of the reasons I don't like them, besides the fact that the OD roller clutch is weaker.

Appreciate it man, I hope the shop has been going well! There's a decent chance of me moving back up to Fort Worth in about ~4 weeks and helping my friends run their shop that has finally started gaining traction so they need me to come up there and be an able body for building transmissions instead of hiring some newbie from scratch and taking sales calls. We'll have to work out a mutually beneficial business agreement like we talked about a few months ago.
When I head up there, shoot me a PM with directions to your shop, would love to stop by and BS with you for a bit.
Badass on the CNC mill, jealous as hell. We're getting a CNC machine as well soon, but not a mill. It'll be good for carving out aluminum drums, valve body stuff, things for a transbrake and some minor heavier metal machining such as machining out TH400 and 4L80E center supports to accept a larger intermediate piston. A mill though, damn you can make some sweet custom parts for that.
Hmmm, what years? That's a good price for late models but more than I'd like to go for an early model, although I'd prefer to find an early model trans for almost every build I do.
