Default DFW - I need a tire

hi guys, i am in dallas and somehow got a small piece of wire go through the very corner of my sidewall on the inside of my tire. i took it to firestone today but they say it is irreparable.

i'm trying to get home to see my family for christmas early this week and i obviously can't drive on the spare 3 hours away, and i am not sure if tirerack can get me a new tire fast enough.

does anyone have a spare 275/40/17 i could buy for cheap? any brand will do. although if luck is on my side (seriously a piece of wire in the sidewall? luck is not on my side) maybe someone could have a spare sumitomo hrz II laying around so i don't have to buy another new one of these pieces of ****.

thanks for any help.

also, does tirerack have any type of standard warranty? i've only had these for about 9 months and i didn't do any type of road hazard plan. also i am buying one spare sumitomo and obviously going to get the warranty this time, but will that work if another tire goes bad or just that specific tire i buy? i don't think i can retroactively buy the plan for all 4. thanks again for any help.

I've picked up a house key, screw driver, and a broken Saws-All blade in tires.

Last time I had a shop tell me they couldn't repair it and it was towards the side of the tread I just got a plug kit from Wallyworld and put it in. I'm sure someone on here will flame me, but it lasted for a couple of months until I bought a new set of tires on my time table.

yeah the guy said he could fix it but he didn't think it was safe. he said some people would do it but not him. i mean it was RIGHT on the tip of the sidewall. another 2 mm and he said he would fix it and not feel like it was unsafe to do. sucks for me!

LOL......That's a good way to **** someone off at a tire shop! They hate that and slime. You should see what happens when they break the bead!

I have heard of it making wheels with spokes leak. Didnt know it could eat metal. I know its nasty but if he isnt the one changing the tire who cares. There is a reason they charge for mount/dismount.

I think it just eats through the finish. I've never used fix a flat. Just heard some horror stories.
Either way. If I'm driving in the middle of no where. And get a flat. I think that would warrant using fix a flat even if it did eat at the wheel/tire. Better then being stranded IMO.

hey thanks for the responses. i actually was able to get tirerack to ship me a new one and it will be here today supposedly.

actually the firestone guy didn't even attempt to sell me another tire. when i asked if he had any of my size in stock he said yeah but you don't want any of them as the tread pattern isn't going to look even similar and they aren't very good tires either. i think he was being pretty honest. but i know nothing about tires, and wouldn't mind a second opinion. i sent you a PM, TAEnvy.

okay and just for the record, a lowered car with a spare on it does not like ******* speed bumps, for god's sake.
