All current and former military enter
IF you read this in the Military Section Please Ignore
So I have been out on IRR for the last for years and have exactly 1 year left and I am done. The past two years I have went to two musters and one stupid all day event that updated medical and personell records. I recently just got back from getting Muster 2 Orders and the e-7 told me that they are calling alot of people back to be 11 bravo or 13 m.
Basically I want some inside info and am contemplating re-enlisting in the Reserve for my Final Year in 25 B as a IT. I have a baby thats due anytime this month and I dont want to spend 18 months in the sand cause I rolled the dice again for my last year. The NCO told me that next time I get orders it wont be for 1 day duty and it Will be a trip to the sand for 18 months.
SO is this **** true? I know obama is pushing a war in afgan.........I dont want to go to AIT for 3 months but This **** has got me thinking.
Let me know some info...
Thanks,

<-Active Reserves, 2001 - 2007.
You're at their beck and call. Anything and everything is possible. Be forewarned.
I've never understood people that sign up for the reserves and then are surprised when they get called up and decide they can't go. What the hell did they think was going to happen? Must have been about 40% of my unit when active recalls came in during the '02 cycles.

I got into IRR in 2005. They told me the same thing, at least once every couple of months, that I was "in the red" to getting deployed, and it was always a retention NCO/Officer giving me this "heads up." Never in three years did I ever have anything more than a muster. Not to call anyone a liar, but it just never happened.
So 2008, I enlisted in the Reserves. They have a deal where they shorten your 8 year obligation AND guarantee you a two year stabilization (in writing, black and white, no fine print, no clauses), just for spending the last of your obligation in the Reserves.
Now I go to school full time, and the Reserves pays for it, while I collect the GI bill as well. Can't wait till August...

I was Army from 88'-98' with the last 4 in reserves. My understanding is they can touch you for 5 years after your committment ends. I resigned an O3 and had a Specialist from Kansas City call me in 2003 updating my info. I told him I weighed 427 pounds, was a diabetic, lost a leg to a freak hunting accident, and to go away. He laughed saying "will make note of that Sir, but am required to update all your information". I ended up having to go to a muster at Hood but is the last I heard from them.
So, they can grab you long after you leave.
My old team Sgt retired after 22 years in 03' and was called back to serve 18 months including the 6 month SRT 3 years after he retired in 06'.

i'm still active, but out of all of my friends that have gotten out, only 3 have been called back. 2 of them couldn't go due to them being a single parent. when i finally do get out, i'll have 9 years in, so i don't gotta worry about IRR. if i were you, i'd def look at who was telling you that. if it's a retention guy, i'd take it with a grain of salt. you know damn well that their job is to get people to stay in. just my .02 cents...

The guy stated that he was in the IRR... Meaning that he came off of Active Duty @ some point therefore, he did NOT sign up for the Reserves. He is fullfilling his "Inactive" obligation. Most Likely served 3 yrs AD then the remaining 5 in the IRR. YOU can Absolutely be called back in to Active Duty @ ANY time w/o notice! The IRR is where the Military usually pulls from before they will pull from the active Reserve forces. Especially if you are in Combat Arms,Medical, transportation! My suggestion to you is that you go to a recruiter, retention NCO and go into the Army Reserves and attend your Battle Assemblies every month, as well as you Annual Training. this way, if/"when" you are Mobilized you will go with Soldiers that you know, and NOT be Reclassified into another MOS.
