Tax this snot out of those things. $100 a pack sounds reasonable to me. In 30 years of EMS I've seen way too many unnecessary miserable deaths from those damned things. One of the major absurdities in this world is that tobacco is legal, even though it kills more people every year than all the illegal drugs combined.

I think that's taxed when you buy replacements.
or to increase the cost of their insurance.
while you may live in a democracy, many of the 'services' we all have (ie. health insurance) are socialist in nature. I pay more in insurance because some insureds make bad choices. I would not be against the taxing of other unhealthy decisions. I think it would help me live in a more healthy fashion.
I'm all for the freedom of smokers. NO ONE is taking away your right to smoke. The majority of people dont want you to smoke near them so we (the majority) regulate where you can smoke and how much you get taxed on it to subsidize the increased insurance of those of us who dont. Dont like it? You actually have the freedom to quit. Maybe we should think of smoking cigarettes as a luxury like cigars instead of it being a habit like chewing your nails.
Theres some freakin socialists in here! Tax something more cus its unhealthy?? What if sodas cost $20 a piece and greasy foods got a tax increase? What if a bottle of beer was $100, alcohol not only kills you but causes a shitton of wrecks and deaths every year. Think before you speak guys, you make yourself look like a ignorant socialist when you say things like "tax it cus i dont like it"

This is the funniest thread. I smoke, but I do not smoke in my house. I think there should still be a smoking section, and a non smoking section. They should be seperated as not to bother the non smokers. Then if you choose to enter the smoking section it's your own dumbass fault. Everyone here has a nasty habit in one form or another.

It was a public resturant that allows smoking andno one forced you to go in and your complaining a out smelling like smoke. Were all the non smoking bars closed? Do know how totally rediculous your arguement is?

I haven't smoked for a couple years now, but cigs at a bar is like:
Popcorn at a Movie Theater
Hot Dog/Peanuts and Beer at a Baseball Game
Turkey Leg and a Beer at the Track
***** at a Strip Club
They all just kind of go hand in hand.

If everyone is such a fan of non smoking bars why did they have to change the laws to make it illegal, the bar owners should see that non smoking bars are so much more popular oh wait they wouldn't be. Why don't they let the bar owner make their own decision about the smoking arrangements in their bars?

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do. Everyone has their right to choose what they do, but if people do choose to smoke they should do it only outdoors and not indoors with no ventilation and to where other people have to smell it. You make it out like I "got what I deserved" by going to a bar. Your argument is equally as ridiculous to me as well. One day I can assure you that this won't be an issue. Smoking indoors will be a thing of the past in the near future!

I wanted to go watch the UFC fight and unfortunately there aren't any non-smoking bars close to my house. I didn't however want to go and smell a bunch of cigarrete smoke. You make it sound as if only smokers have the right to be in a bar. My point is that non-smokers don't infringe smokers by their choice not to smoke. Someone who does smoke definitely infringes on those who do. Do you understand this fact?

and speaking of beer... you might want to go to a bar just because you like the food. you might not even be there to drink. and just because you are in a bar, doesnt mean that o ther people drinking is affecting you. but if people are smoking, you are affected whether you want to be or not. that is the arguement... a non-smoker is still affected by the smoke.
but what you ARE saying, is that if you go to a bar to just drink or for the food, you are also REQUIRED to smoke, whether you want to or not.
