Just think you take away a cigarette from the guy that needs it and he uses a semi auto to kill 40 people - Who is to blame, cigarettes or guns ?
I smoke because it keeps me awake at work and I know alot of service members who would go crazy without nicotine. The government should in no way be able to tell a private business owner what he can or cannot allow in his establishment. That is communism and socialism, our government is slowly stripping us of our right to stand up for ourselves. I wont go to a bar if I cant smoke there and Im sure plenty of others think the same. Why do you think the automakers are in a bind? Its because our government told them what the could or couldnt build and it damn near ruined them. Go ahead cowards and cave in to a totalitarian society where anything you dont like is taxed or illegal. Give me liberty or give me death! Wait til the tell make smoking in your own house illegal or your car gets crushed because it was loud and disrupted the people around you.

Yeah, you sound like King Leonidis giving the Spartans a little pep talk. Don't get your panties in a wad, just smoke outside or your own residence or a cigar bar or something... I own guns but I don't go shooting in malls and movie theaters, I go to a gun range or property that I can legally shoot on. Give ME LIBERTAY!!!

you have smoked yourself retarded.

caffeine and adderal will keep you awake also. service members would go crazy without nicotine....well they are addicted, of course they would. the only reason business owners let smokers smoke at bars is cause they know they would lose business because some smokers think they are some elitist dbags that can light up anywhere.

most smokers aren't this hardheaded. when astroworld was around I'd ask somebody smoking in line to please put out their cigarette and they never had a problem doing it.

2 Slow's very right. These laws aren't passing because the government wants to control where you can and can't smoke. It's because a majority of the people see it as a nuisance. I understand your frustration about it, but in reality, it's probably better.

Hi Mike!

Lots of establishments have tried this. If you are a non smoker, you can still smell it a long ways because it's too expensive for many places to make a total "smoking" section, it still drifts. It's kind of like a "Peeing" and "Non Peeing" section in a public swimming pool.

The person that bought the carton of cigarettes for the same price yesterday, there are some places, people that had no idea the prices of the cartons went up abruptly. Everybody was expecting the price to increase on April 8. Phillip Morris snuck a surprise increase on us (Retail establishments) starting Friday. I was shocked that my normal $40.XX per carton rose to $47.00 a carton at about 4pm. I unfortunately was the 2nd retailer that stumbled upon that. I promptly went to "other" avenues and got my $40.XX cartons on Saturday as much places as I could before the rest of the world found out. Sams and most wholesalers were completely out of Marlboro's i.e. Phillip Morris by Sunday.

I visited a friend that owns a liquor store yesterday (and this is Monday!) and she still had the old price. She was definately losing money so obviously I had to inform her what was going on on the outside world.

Tobacco WILL go up AGAIN April 8, don't get surprised on this one folks.

Ross is my ******* hero.

on topic, keep the smoking outside. When I did smoke, I never did so in any car, in any building, or when people I knew didn't like it were around. Most of the time was outside when the wind was up a little bit so it didn't smell. I know you guys (Elite, capn smokey, etc) can't or don't care what other people think but come on. Have some respect fellas for the people out there who don't smoke

This man gets it! At least he was respectful towards other people and acted as a responsible person should when he smoked at one time. It's a shame that people like Elite and capn smokey have to be so self centered about their disgusting habit and basically thumb their noses at people.

Should we bump gas up to $20/gallon for people that have removed their catalytic converters? Because it's not the smell of smoke that should be bothering, it's the carbon monoxide. I think that's a great idea Nevermind, it is illegal to remove cats from your car and none of us do it. This has got to be the gayest argument I've ever seen, maybe we can argue about GM vs. Ford...

Grow some ***** man seriously. Just because you are one of the many weak minded people who doesnt have enough self control to quit smoking doesn't mean it should be taxed to hell, that argument is just rediculous.

Smoking has been banned in Austin for a while now. No one around here cares because it isn't a big deal to just step outside for 5 minutes.

This obviously didn't hurt business either, 6th is packed friday and saturday nights.

Also some people have a point about kids. They shouldn't have to be around that in a restaurant. Even outside, I won't smoke around kids.

I'm not arguing your point about smoking in bars or other public places. And I am completely against more taxes of any kind, but from a financial standpoint it would be much easier to quit smoking if it were $20 dollars a pack. Now your making generalizations that people who smoke are weak minded? Some people smoke because they like it. People also drink themselves stupid because they like it. Either one will kill you eventually. I don't think its your place to assume they are weak minded or inferior to you just because they like to smoke.
