Default Insurance claim question...

Well I called to make a claim with my insurance a few days ago for the bottlecap/knife marks. They gave me a list of their paint shops they use and told me to get an estimate. I decided to go with gunn chevrolet. Anyways, the estimate came up to $1200. My deductible is $500, so my insurance just deposited $700 into my checking account. I wont be getting the work done at Gunn. A few other places that I've checked out said about $1800-2k. Is there anyway that I can get a diff estimate still? Or is it too late since they already deposited some $$ in my checking? They lady I'm dealing with already left USAA, so I can't call till tomorrow.

Any help is appreciated.
Patrick.

You should always get at least 3 estimates up front

take the estimate to whatever shop you want. If the shop you take it to has a supplement they will contact usaa and they will work it out with the shop and pay them direct. The shop i work at is stars program shop for usaa and you would be better off using one of usaa direct shops. You will have a lifetime warranty thru the shop and usaa so if you stay local they have to take care of it as long as you own the car or if you move away contact usaa and they will direct to a drp in your area. usaa will have the new shop write a estimate on what it would take to fix the repairs and bill the other shop back for fixing the old repairs.

I didnt "turn in" an estimate. I went to gunn, they did an estimate. Then 3-4hrs later, USAA called me and said gunn faxed them the estimate.

If I decide to go to a shop of my choice, and it happens to be more, I dont think USAA can refuse.

I called the lady dealing with my claim. She didnt answer, so I left a message. So I'm just waiting on a call back from her.

Yours was like $1350 I think.

I had someone look at it that does paint work for the car wash I work at. He said it looked like ~$1800 worth of work. Its going to need filler etc bc of how deep the scratches are.

oh ya thats right. well yeah 1800 sounds about right too. judging from the pictures, it shouldnt be above 2000. we arent cheap whatsoever, but when it was all said and done, i dont think it would be any higher than 1700. just make sure you get it done at a shop that garauntees it for the entire time you own it
