If you have a good LS1 in it now, then its definitely not worth it.

If you have no motor or a blown motor, I would recommend getting a truck 6.0L (LQ4 or LQ9) if you are on a tight budget. They are only a little more expensive than the 5.3's and are definitely worth every extra penny.

If you have enough money, just get another LS motor for it.

You could build the 5.3 to have LOTS of RPM's, which would be cool!

Maybe 8k...

Don't you have the 5.7 LS1?

I have a 5.3l in my z28 right now (long story) .... Even with headers, LS6 intake and a z06 cam it's slow. If you're in Houston i'll let you drive it. I'll soon be pulling the 5.3 and replacing it with a lq4. So unless you need your car for transportation I would hold off and wait for a 6.0 or low mileage ls1.
OR
Put the 5.3l in and top it off with a healthy shot of nitrous, who cares if it blows.
OR
Buy my 5.3l and a twin turbo kit I have laying around.... ~600 rwhp i'll let it all go for around 4k, less if you don't want the fuel system. pm me for details.

My 5.3 runs like a beast there really is not too much power difference. If you got the money get a 6.0l out of a junk yard.

Yeah I heard its just about 10hp difference in them, oh and plus the weight of the iron block. I would do a 5.3 some good H/C and bump up the CR, make it carb and slap a plate on it with a 150 and as well all the bolts ons and see what it runs. oh and Ill slap this in a 3000lb notch..
