USAA is one of the very best, if not THE best in fairly and quickly handling claims. Check out insurance industry rankings.

Don't be one of the foolish guys who shops just based on who has the lowest premiums and then gets the shaft on his very first claim. Wrong time to discover that the insurance you were paying for over years wasn't really worth a damn.

If you go with some of the cheaper premium insurers, you will get what you pay for.

State Farm is increasing 20%. Looking at it that way, 15% isnt too bad.

I changed from USAA earlier this year as well. Mine went up 23%!!! It was already a tad high compared to other companies but that was over the top considering I had ZERO claims and always paid on time. Called to ask and their reason was that they lost a lot of money on all the hurricanes last year so they had to raise the rates.

Went to Nationwide and saved about $600 a year.

I still have everything else with USAA just cant afford to keep them as my insurance for my cars.

I did a search on those TDI#s and that looks like HO ins, not auto.

I was with USAA for 9 years and switched to GEICO because of their rates. I have the same coverage with GEICO for $300 cheaper.

Can someone tell me how it would be possible to switch in the middle of a pay period? I would like to shop our ins. around but have already paid for the year. How does that work, am I going to eat the money already invested?

Randy, if you drop insurance, they refund the premium $ that would extend past the date you drop the policy.

Again, I am not saying that guys dropping USAA are wrong... but I will say be careful and don't shop on price alone.

Thanks I will look more into it.

I don't have USAA, I have State Farm and am not unhappy with the insurance, more the representative. His rates are higher than other offices in our area. I didn't choose him, I chose his predecessor.

No, they are required to give you back your pro-rated amount unless otherwise stated in the contract.

Guys, they have dropped their rates for basically the past 5 or so years. And what was stated before, its only on HO rates, not autos. PLUS, it has to be cleared through their supervisory agency, and given the economy, it may not happen.

I understand your worry but this is exactly what USAA said when I told them I was dropping them and going to Nationwide.

"Can I ask why you are dropping USAA?"

"Well, I got a MUCH MUCH better price going through a different company"

"Oh, well USAA was the only insurance company to retain its AAA rating."

"Really?? Thats nice because Lehman Bros, Countrywide, Merrill Lynch were AAA also until they literally brought down the whole economy when they crashed. So those ratings mean jack dont they?"

"........"

"Im sorry sir but good luck and good bye"

The bottom line is that USAA is a company. Over the past 3 years they have raised their rates with me almost 50% and literally nothing has changed with me except I turned 25 and got married. They can only keep so many customers when they raise the rates so much in such a little period.

That sucks...I have been with USAA for almost 10 years and have never had an issue. I was expecting my rates to go up this year since we just moved back to Houston, add 15% to whatever hike I get and that is sure to sting.
