My first car was a 1988 VW Golf GL 4 door. Oh I thought I was big pimpin in 2000 on my 16th birthday pulling into the highschool parking lot in a beauty like this:
That's not mine, but it was exactly like it. I got it from my Grandma in 2000 for $500. It had 40k miles and she had it since new so it was like a brand new car. I hated it at the time but I took care of it. I figured if I can't have the nicest looking car, why be stuck with the worst looking one? That beast sparkled!

I had the same thing... 67 F100 Ranger that my dad fixed up while I attempted to help some. Got it when I was 13 or so. First car I bought was a 2000 Z28 before I even turned 17... I convinced my parents I needed it because it got at least twice the gas mileage.

My first was a 75 Chevy Nova "SS" clone. I didn't have the 396 but a sb 400 from like a 70 something pickup. It had cam work, head work, crank, pistons, valves, a Edelbrock hi-rise intake, and a edelbrock 750 4bbl on it. Car had major engine problems though as the previous owners thrashed it on the track. Before we bought it they changed the intake on it and a few other things. They had the engine itself dynoed like at 700 hp before they stripped it down for a DD. Afterwards, although I have no dyno sheets for this, they reported it should still have around 500hp......
Transmission was a piece of crap when we bought it, had a race built TH350 with stage 2 shiftkit and 2400-3200 stall convertor. STOCK rear end on this pile.....
You could burn the wheels straight off the rims if you didn't let of the throttle, but I think it probably made closer to 350 rwhp *based on how my Camaro now drives*
This sounds all good right??? Hell no!!! I spent more time FIXING that car then driving it. It would sit for 6 months, I would finally get it fixed, start driving it again, drive it for 1 week, and something else would break and I never really raced it ever!! Basically they sold me an engine that was abused at the track that had never been rebuilt.
On a side note, I was able to beat a C4 ZR-1 Vette by about 2 car lengths on the street. My dad gave "MY" car away......for free...after he striped off all the parts during his "failed" restoration attempt.
Then he did the same thing to my other 2 Cars.....
84 z-28/sport coupe... Car had been wrecked before and sport coupe front end was used as replacement... paid 1000 cash for it... it had a 700R4 Trani that the guys pulled out of a wrecked Vette, and that thing had a meaner shift kit in it the the Nova.... 140mph+ in this car but...it took a LOT longer to get their then the new ones....
Other Camaro was an 84 Berlinetta. I bought this because the body was straight on it and my dad......after doing a job at a engine shop for him.....was supposed to give me an engine to put in it...FAIL again
This car was all original with the same 305 "more or less" as the z28. Digital Dash Cluster...that almost nothing worked on.....speedo would blink at 85 and not read any faster.....even though there was another number in front of the 8... *it would read like 100 somthing km in digital???" Bigest Pile of crap I have ever owned..... Lost Exhaust from cat back one night driving it...pulled over, ripped off my entire exhaust and mufflers, left them on the side of the road and continued on.... Finally this car sounded MEAN after I did this!!!...
Sadly, both my "project" cars are gone... I paid for them both, my own money!! ME...I went out of town for work, and I get a phone call informing me he traded them off for a travel trailer......WTF!!!!!!!
Also in there...there was a 79 Suburban that I siezed the engine on the first time i drove it....there was a 93 Bronco 4x4 351..."that I wish I hadn't sold"
And now, we have the 2002 V-6 Camaro in Burgandy.....some stupid woman crashed into it a few weeks ago......needs a new front end....
And the newest Edition, the 2002 Z-28 Camaro in silver and black........
Life story of cars huh??

1981 Chevy Caprice Classic (this was in 1995). 97k old grandparent car. It was clean, but not cool at all. Baby Blue with the navy blue vinyl top and interior. It has a 267 2 bbl V8 and couldn't get out of its own way. I couldn't make it any faster with the cash I had so I just built a really loud stereo system for it so I could get in trouble that way.
First car I searched for, checked out, negotiated etc was my 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL 2 door B4U package. I bought it in 1997 with 50k. It is still in my driveway with 196k and runs great. Still looks good and is my DD.
