James Houston was shot down over Chi-Chi Jima...he was probably better off dying in the crash rather than being captured alive. Read Flyboys and you'll see why.

This is kind of ironic for me as when I was a kid I'd always had this wierd vibe about being a past dive bomber pilot (SBD) shot down during the Battle of Midway. I don't think it's that uncommon. But this kid's story is spooky. And at least he flew a really cool plane, The Hog!

There'd be an easy way to find out: ask the kid the correct starting procedure for a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 and then the correct stall recovery technique for the F4U-4 Corsair. That would solve everything.
