Sad news for Houston Raceway Park fans
A couple of months ago I went to the HRP website, then checked out the calendar to see when the track would be open on Sundays. The calendar indicated late September.
Yesterday I went back to the calendar to see exactly what Sunday was open in September and noticed that there was no more Sunday test and tunes. None through the year. I sent an email got the reply that basically opening on Sundays for 25-30 cars just wasn't worth the effort and cost and it would be like this until the economy picked back up.
I loved running on Sundays. Watch the Texan game then head on out. Like the guy stated, not a lot of cars, so you get more runs. I'm just not a fan of Friday night and the two hour waits between runs. It seemed like Sundays were for the older crowd, and that is what I preferred.

I'm not going to lie, it just costs way to much to head out there, pay the entry fee, the cost of gas, the potential for **** to break and have to be towed back home with a 400 dollar tow bill is just too high when you can just go a little bit down the road and basically do the same thing.

Saturdays at Evadale Raceway north of Beaumont are almost always good. Normally not to crowded and you can get several passes in. It is IHRA, but it's an option.

Yeah, this is very disappointing to hear. The last time I went to HRP was on a Friday night back in May. The line to get in was sticking-out in the road. My buddy in his Mustang and me in the Trans Am said, "**** it", and left. Not worth spending the entry fee to get only one run in.
Sunday was always the better option. Sad to see it no longer an option. When I moved to Houston in 2000, I used to go Wednesday night. Much more professional, mature crowd. I still have my "Street Tire" trophy for winning one night!!
Dude I work with grew-up racing in New Jersey. He raced for real money with his '69 Camaro SS with a 427 (low 10 second car). He said racing down here sucks!!! You could actually pay for your season up north by racing. Not the same here.
