IROCs from 87-90 were Tuned Port Injection, so you must have been looking at an early 85-86 IROC that was still available with the TPI or the junk carb setup. Quadrajet carbs suck. There are many LS1 cars shamed by my holley powered 89 RS so you just have to have the right carb.
You are a lucky man, i had a SMALL leak in my 95 before going SBC, bitch overheated and i instantly shut it down when i saw it sky rocket up, blew both head gaskets.
