Default Stroker LS1

I've been considering building a 383 LS1 but have been told that for a daily driver stroked LS motors are a bad idea due to the piston coming out of the bottom of the cylinder lining. Does anyone drive a stroked LS daily and what do they think of it? Thanks!

A 383 is considered the "safe" limit for an ls1 without resleeving. 383 strokers however are not that popular because there are much better options out there.

Well I already have an ls1 and don't really have the money to get another block. It needs to be rebuild so I figured I might as well stroke it while I have the motor out and taken apart.

How many miles have you put on the motor since you made it a 383? Nice TA by the way.

A 402ci is not much more expensive, and the better option for the price, but you would not be able to use the LS1 block unless it was resleeved. You could do either a LQ4, or LQ9 iron block, or an LS2 aluminum block.

I am not saying a 383 is bad, people get good numbers out of them. All I am saying is if you are spending the money, why not spend a little more and get some extra CI.

I have a 383 but don't have that many miles on it .........

And the reason I went with a 383 is that I found all the parts for a good price and couldn't pass it up so that's what I have a 383 . I wanted to go bigger CI but I like my 383 so far not sure if i'm going to boost or spray..........

I daily drive my 383. I have about 14,000 miles on it so far. I built a 383 because I got an LS6 short-block cheap, way cheaper than trying to find a decent LS2 block (plus I was able to sell the crank, rods and pistons!). Eric at HKE hooked me up on the machining and balancing and good prices on the crank and rods. Pistons came from Scoggins, cam from MTI (before they closed). I'm very happy with it.

What kind of power do you make? and What gear ratio?
