Just ordered a set of NT05 tires
I wanted an upgrade from the Nitto Invos on back but did not want to switch out wheels. So for stock size 19" this looked like the best street/strip option.
Anyone tried them?

For handling: I'd say they're on par with the BFG KD. Keep in mind this is what they were designed to do.
For drag racing or straightline traction: they're still like the KD I ran. Forget about first. If I get traction in the bottom of 2nd they'll still spin closer to the top end.
I'm only making 480 whp/465 lb/ft so its similar to your car's output. Gearing is just 3.89's. It isn't a drag suspension either sothey may do better with a different set up.

I just had some regular NT05's put on at NTB for 430$ total for rear wheels stock size 275/40/17. I haven't had a chance to run them yet but I figured they would be softer than they are.

I am very happy with my NT05s, but I bought them for road coarse (HPDE), not drag strip. Straight line traction is good but not great. Again, not what they were designed for. I did an HPDE in the rain and was very impressed. Best tires I have had for what I do with them.

I run them on the front and rear of my ws6, 275/35/18, 295/35/18 and I am really impressed with them, straight line traction is pretty good, but that's not what they were designed for. Once they get warm corner traction is very good, even cold they are still pretty good.

Suck in what way? At not doing well at something they weren't designed to excel at?
I spent some time at a shop yesterday. They have an LS1 Lexus that was able to cut 1.7 60's on the NT05. Like I said, they may be better on other set ups, but straight line traction isn't what they were designed to do. I'd probably have the same issues with INVOS.

According to them, it is a "maximum performance tire"...........with "extensive on track testing."
According to Discount Tire.

"The Nitto NT05 is a maximum performance summer tire that was developed using advanced computer simulation and extensive on-track testing. These development methods along with rigorous quality standards helped produce a street tire that provides precise and responsive handling and performance."
Calling them a performance tire and using on track testing indicates to me that they are for racing, however tracks can be circular and other configurations. I took it to mean drag racing, so in this context, yes, they do suck.
Don't get me wrong, I am a big Nitto fan and will buy other tires made by Nitto, however next time I will dot my I's and cross my T's and be assured that racing means drag racing. I have 19" tires on my GXP and there is not any drag radial that will fit my car, using my normal rims. One of my buddies on another G8 forum is checking into using 18" rims for his car and getting some NT05R's for his car, which is a drag radial.

Any definition of "Max Performance summer" tires will include comments about high speed and handling. If you look in tirerack's tests, and most other tire tests they're on wet/dry road courses or around cones, and not drag strips. I agree they do suck for that, but the assumption the tests were done at a drag strip isn't their fault. I just think its wrong to say they suck when you're using them outside of what they were designed to do. Thats like buying a Coke and saying it sucks because you're not getting drunk off of it. Its a drink. They claim its refreshing, but if you want a buzz you have to buy something with a alcohol content.
