Default Help with what to do with hydrolocked C6

So last friday when it stormed here in houston really bad i got caught downtown on a one way street in traffic, short story short road completely flooded and my engine took in water and hydrolocked. The car got absolutely no water in it, only the enigne. Im wondering if some of the engine builders around the houston area work with insurance companies (allstate is mine) in engine relacement. My faminly mechanic who we trust fully got it to turn over and spit a lot of the water out and said he may be able to save the engine, and I have herd of others having this happen, flushing their engines and having it run without a hitch after it was dried out. Im just not sure how big of a risk that its? I know the insurance pay out is pretty big for c6 engines(@8k-$9k) and was wondering what some of my options may be. There is no worst feeling than sitting there helpless watching your car litterly die. Gotta bring her back stonger than ever so any input is appreciated.

-Greg

might want to get with gforce on that. they had a customer in the same situation as you were in with the same car. i beleive they worked with the insurance on it and it ended up working out pretty good.

If you pulled the plugs and cleared the water it should start right back up. if you didnt bend a rod the motor will dry out and be ok. Just change the oil and air filter and drive on.

X2, you will come out better in the long run by taking it to someone like G-Force. Most automotive shops will just put another stock motor back in and G-Force can add a little something to it.

Yup all you gotta do is take it to a repair shop and let them call your insurance, sounds like G force has you covered.

At a shop I was managing a few years ago my buddy brought his hydrolocked LS6 swapped RX7 in and I had zero issues getting insurance coverage on it. Although they paid actually for a rotary motor it was still in the neighborhood of a 4-5 thousand dollar check.

The insurance company's money is as good as anyone else's. Who wouldn't work with them if they write a check?

If you can get it running ok as is just run a compression and leakdown test. If all looks good I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks everyone, I have heard good things about Gforce for a few years now, so I dont doubt their work at all and will be one of the first shops I call if they engine is gone. I should know something later today about the engine. Honestly, a brand new tinkered engine would be nice, but Im hoping she is ok as is and we can get her back up...if not a built engine was meant to be

Trust me if you sucked water in the intake and the engine shut off it has a bent rod and most likely a cracked block. Water and LSx engines are not friends.

This happened to a friend of mine. His insurance ended up covering it and he got a nice little setup from G-Force out of it.

+1 for G-force. Wish I would have gone to them when I hydrolocked my motor a year ago. Could have had a lightly used LS3 put in my car for what my insurance paid the other shop.

Out of curiosity, were you running the stock intake system?

I got the car running for now. Runs smoother than before actually. I do need to find a new LS2 MAF so if anyone has one for sale please let me know. Im in the process of starting a new job, ill be making more money so I can finally mod the car. Gforce most likely will be getting a call from me anyways
