Before you do anything. Check to see if that is a matching numbers car. They will go for more if you have the original motor in it.

Nice car. I have always liked those split bumper Camaros. Looks like you got a good deal on it.

so from what it seems like you have a little more work to do than just some patches on the quarters. that dent on the rear right wheel well is gonna be a bitch. plus some of those paint chips look pretty ******* deep, you sure you don't have dents/dings that need to be fixed? like on the hood and doors? also on these cars i can almost guarantee there is gonna be rust around the windows/floor pans. this thing is deffinitely gonna need to be stripped down to the metal to see what surprises are underneath. unless you wanna take the risk of painting over rust.

and it kinda seems like the panel fitment is off too. can't really tell from the pics but it's something that needs to be addressed regardless. **** who knows maybe the car was wrecked etc etc.

There is a little rust around the window but I am just going to sandblast it. There are no dents anywhere but there are some waves on the fenders where it meets the doors. Some sanding, maybe a skim coat of filler, priming and block sanding will take care of it. Filler might not be necessary though. I will check the inside of the fender from the engine bay later to see if there are any dents that are hidden under that wave.
The holes in the quarters will be sanded with a bad *** grinder, old metal cut and patch along with a skim coat of filler to smooth it out. The paint chips will just be sanded with 80 grit, primed and block sanded smooth again. It will all be sanded down again once they prep it for paint though, ALL cars are sanded COMPLETELY before paint, I can't believe someone asked me that question. I know the shop I work at isn't the highest quality but damn, I can't believe there are shops that don't even sand cars before paint.
All of the panels line up nice except the hood needs to be adjusted just a little but I am putting on a cowl hood anyways. The doors maybe need to be raised just a smidge so they will close a little smoother but they don't hang up at all.

I will post some more detail pics of the car in a minute showing the body. There are no rust in the floors from what I see underneath the car, the whole underside is very clean but I will know better once I pull the carpet.

I am loving the tags at the bottom.

Nice car. My first car was a '70 Camaro, and I have had a hankering for another for a long time.

I didn't mean sandblast the car completely but it will be sanded down almost all the way and sealed. Also if there was any rust under the paint it would show through as a bubble. There pretty much isn't any except on the quarters but it's already a given that there is rust there. It doesn't take but a few months for rust to show through on fresh body work and paint so this car would already show it if it was there.

I just haven't been able to mess with it between the T/A and work but maybe next week. I was going to fix the T/A today but they needed me to put in a few more hours.

i want to see this one with some good paint on it. as for being rust free its pretty much impossible to find one without any even if it was a california garage kept car. mine had some on the original front fenders and that was it, or so i thought. i put it away in storage the car was freshly coated in primer. went back to check on it two years later to see that a leaky roof in the storage caused water to leak in and get into the rear of the car and rot out the tail panel & trunk pan.

I see you work at the body shop who specializes in single stage paint. I know Tim very well. Looks like several paint jobs on that car. By sanding I think he met take it all the way down to bare metal looks like the ds qtr. is gonna need to be replaced, there is alot of bondo in it. Is that a bullet hole near the top. Good luck with the car.

I might strip it, it just depends on how hard the paint is to get through. Sometimes it's like gum and is a pain in the *** to strip, totally not worth the work. Plus I will risk the chance of it flash rusting from humidity or someone touching it since I won't be able to keep it in the shop. Usually the cars that are stripped are the ones that are just completely fucked with rust. First thing I want to do is the quarters though, I will figure it out once I get there though. If I get the front bumper fixed on the T/A and the fender pulled I will start on the Camaro afterwards.

the way the paint is already chipping i don't think you'll have a problem getting it off. now keeping it from rusting even further once it's bare will be a PITA since it's not garage kept.

Yup, it's kinda neat watching it actually. I can pour a bottle of water on a stripped car and in like 10 minutes it will already start turning yellow.

Been having a lot of fun driving the car though, the stereo is sooo much better than the T/A's and it drives nice. Doesn't seem to draw a lot of attention but then again I don't really notice. Had another guy offer me $8,000 again today for it but turned it down.

It's been a bitch finding some nice wheels though with my $2,000 budget.

I stripped mine to see what was under there and I was pleasantly surprised no rust. My car is an all original panel car with no rot. Mine however is not from Texas, it is from New Mexico. If you were offered 8k for it I would have probably taken it. I have right at 30k in mine. I just did an 6.0 4l80e swap it adds up quick. Hotchkis tvs 1200. wheels tires 2500 interior 1200, and ls swap headers 550 fuel tank 550 fittings 500 and this is if you do it yourself. I am not trying to discourage you, but only inform you since I just finished. If you plan to sell it and not keep it it is probably not worth the time and effort for little return. As far as mine, I am keeping it.
