Looking for home protection... need advice!!!
Long story short, someone tried to kick my front door down last night . I woke up in a panic and had nothing to protect myself or my girlfriend. The only gun in my house is a 1944 Mosign Nagant bolt action rifle. Not ideal for home defense.
I've shot pistols and shotguns plenty of times at the range but I don't own any. If you guys could give me some suggestions on better home defense weapons i'd appreciate it.

plus a large dog will do wonders...crooks are scared shitless of dogs. shotgun is really the best weapon for home defense cause its damn near impossible to be inaccurate and it packs a punch...and you can get one for cheap.
Remington makes a GREAT shotgun...especially the age old 870 pump
good luck!

Done and done! Damn good shotgun. Also, if someone is trying to kick your door in, rack this ****** and see if they keep trying to kick it in. There is not much out there that is more intimidating than racking a 12 gauge. If they still persist, spray a little 00 buck at the door. It should get their attention.
This should do the job nicely:

This. Shotgun is the best home defender. Get one with the short barrel. Most things happen at night, when you are barely awake and can't see well. The shotgun won't miss, and the sound they make when loading a shell is very audible to would-be thieves - even on the other side of the door.

There are several good home defense models of shotguns out there. I'd get one of those vs. cutting down a long barrelled gun. Either Mossber or Remington has one that comes with 2 barrels if you want dual purpose.
Another option would be to get a revolver and load it with shot too. Just alternate shot and hollow point, but IMO a shotgun is your better option.
Either way, keep it loaded and ready. I had an incident many years ago when we thought someone got in the house. I was half asleep and trying to load a shotgun. Ya, not good. Its much easier to grab and go.

i have a short barrel remington 12 gauge shotgun with a pistol grip. works real nice lol. go to academy they have real cheap guns. my friend got his mossberg 12 gauge for like 225$ i think and its acctualy a real damn good gun. my big rottweiler doesnt let anyone in. but if that happens im ready with over 100 shells of buck shots and slug
