You can really get a title for a car that you didn't pay for or get as a gift? How can you prove the vehicle is abandoned? I'm gonna go to the DMV, get a stack of forms and transfer the title of every vehicle I like to my name and steal it...
There's no way you can do this... It's one thing to file for a lost title. But that has to be done by the last known owner of the car.
The best thing to do IMO, is get the license plate, do some research and get ahold of the owner. Offer them $100 for the title and tell them you'll get the car off their hands...

A mechanic's lien has to be done by a legal shop. Plus they have to have proof that they have done work to the car.
And if you apply for a bonded title or whatever, by the time the waiting period is up for searching for the owner, the car would have been towed off already. I'm surprised it's been sitting on the side for the road for 2 whole weeks.

You cannot legally obtain a title for a car deemed "abandoned". The county or city are suppose to tow it away and auction it off.

Don't make fun of metros! lol. My beater is a purple '96 Metro.
If a car has replaced the other one, I'd almost definately say a bait car. It would be funny to report it to the police station lol. My boss called the police station about a cop car parked on the road for 30 minutes. It was hilarious listening to them try to talk their way out of a "suspicious car" parked on the road that was one of their own.
